Mum hates the hassle so we celebrated her birthday here because there’s good food at relatively affordable prices, impeccable service and it’s cosy! So yes yes, back again.

Salmon (supplementary $6 for 2/3 courses at $25++/$28++) - this wasn’t mine but I had a bit of the salmon which was pan-seared to a perfectly crisp skin while remaining moist and soft. On a bed of pea purée(?), with glazed fava beans, octopus legs, ricotta cheese and shallot confit. Everyone who tried it loved this.

Braised in red wine, the angus oyster blade was tender and flavoursome, with black truffle salsa, smooth parsnip purée and spiced risotto cake that was nicely crisped on the top. So far the beef dishes are decently priced and easy to love! But ok actually we haven't had anything bad here 😛

Linguine was al dente, but what had us addictively reaching for the dish was the bisque sauce bursting with umami, without being too heavy/ jelak.

I usually need meat together with carbs but this, I could easily finish by itself even if there wasn't any lobster tail. Not to say it wasn't good, it was a happy thing that the fresh chunky lobster was an accompaniment to the super tasty pasta🤤 Topped with Avruga caviar.

Newly added to their choice of appetisers, this was really worth adding additional $5 for. The herb butter was delis and great for dipping the toast. The snails were pretty good and didn't have a bad aftertaste like some other places. Even my little man ordered it along with a smoked salmon club sandwich as his main. Go check out @sanbistrosg new lunch menu! So worth the moolah #burpple #whileimwaitingfortheloml #lomljns #lomljnck

Definitely worth the extra $3! The pan-seared barramundi was good - perfectly browned and crisp while the fish was moist; the tomato concassé with natural jus was quite a pleasant surprise when the seemingly normal accompaniment turned out to have such intensity of flavours, all from the barramundi itself! Nothing to fault about the pasta, al dente, not overly garlicky nor spicy. I love how they manage to bring out the best of each ingredient without neglecting nor overdoing; where everything was good enough on its own but harmoniously combine to create a very enjoyable dish, guaranteed to satisfy the tastebuds at a very affordable price point.

Here's one of the mains we ordered for our $18++/23++ set lunch! Chicken Leg Confit - slow cooked, keeping the chicken meat very tender, retaining its juiciness while the skin was nicely crisped. Hidden beneath was a bed of tasty smooth mash. Wasn't a fan of the hainanese style black pepper sauce which was not bad, but I would've liked it better with something lighter that didn't overpower the flavours of the chicken leg.

Hard to go wrong with this: dark chocolate sponge topped with chocolate fudge, mousse and crunchy pearls. The cocoa nibs tuile was more of a caramel brittle though, so while it provided some textural contrast, it introduced more sweetness too.

It's easy for veloutés to get cloyingly rich but this wasn't. You still get the creamy texture but the charred cauliflower florets break the monotony. Love the nutty notes from the brown butter too!

Don't let the extra $3 for this option dissuade you if you're opting for the lunch set ($18/$23 for 2/3 courses), I promise it'll be worth it!

The fish is pan-fried to a golden brown crisp finish with flaky, moist insides. The linguine aglio olio was al dente and seasoned just nice, further enhanced by the concentrated fish stock ("natural jus") and the tomato concassé's umaminess!

I usually find French onion soups a little hard to finish on my own, but with no bread layering or gratinéeing here, you get to enjoy the broth's depth of flavour from caramelised onions and veal jus on its own.
