Raclette Cheese Fries

Interesting and tasty cheese burger.

Finally visited the (once) raved about Western Co. Kudos to the new (& very young) management for trying to provide good service with smiles despite the peak period. Visited on a Sunday noon time, and it was almost full house. Ordered the Ying Yang Signature Combo for $20.90 including a $5 raclette cheese top up along with Chicky Burger $16.90 & Chicken with Shiitake Mushroom Sauce $9.90. I understand that they were pretty much understaffed & it got to a point where orders were mixed up & customers who ordered later got their food earlier than customers who ordered way earlier. 45 minutes into my wait after placing my order, one dish appeared. 1 hour later, (I'm not kidding), another dish arrived and yet another 1 hour 20 minutes later, the last dish (finally) arrived. The staff did come over to apologise for the wait but to be honest such a long wait is really unacceptable considering how the crowd started to clear out after awhile. When my signature Ying Yang combo came, it came without the raclette cheese I paid $$$ to top up for and they had to take it to the back again to scrape the cheese off the wheel. & they took another 5 minutes to do so. Food was substandard & below average & definitely not worth the prices paid. Nothing worth raving about. If the management wants to make it, they definitely have to do something about the way they're managing the order flow, no one is going to wait an hour for a battered fish...

Amazing flowing swiss cheese with chicken. Taste like Swiss! ($14.90)

It's nice to have a coffeeshop that is host to three much raved about hawkers peddling their cuisine under one roof, but dear God the crowds are a massive pain. Anyways, I can see why there's this much hype around The Western Co, since their most expensive dish won't even come close to breaching the $20 mark. But is the food any good?

Well, this Hawaiian Raclette Chicken (one of their signature items), definitely is. And at $14.90, it's relatively reasonable while still being acceptably pleasing to the palate. A standard issue, expertly grilled chicken chop is topped off with chunks of sweet pineapple and a few bits of ham before being smothered by the oozy, melted raclette straight from the wheel. It wouldn't be inaccurate to describe this as a Hawaiian pizza sans the dough base.

Granted, there was a slight bit of disappointment at the amount of cheese, but that may have been me being spoiled by all those raclette cheese porn videos coming out of Europe. The cheese is something special, as it has a texture and springiness much like melted mozzarella, but it has a stronger taste that's slightly reminiscent of a mature gruyere cheese.

It's a delight to devour, no doubt, but a prudent man will definitely wait till the craze dies down as we waited a full hour for our food. Or better yet, get your own raclette cheese, get yourself a nice shop space and be the competition.

Tender juicy chicken with melty gooey raclette cheese paired with vampire slayer garlic fries and homemade coleslaw.

I admit, my greedy side won and ordered extra cheese. But if I had known how strong the cheese tasted, I probably would have thought twice about adding it on; because the thing with good/great cheese is that it's to be enjoyed in moderation. My only downside is that I couldn't really taste the tomato sauce/paste under the cheese though...

My honest opinion: 4/5 I wouldn't say that it's a dish that everyone would love to eat. Raclette has a rich *almost woodsy*, salty, creamy aroma that is very hard to describe so while the dish is very instagrammable, I'm not sure if it suites everyone's palate.

*side note* it's been 4 hours after I ate the raclette chicken and I think I can still taste the cheese in the back of my mouth.

Everyone's raving about @thewesternco located in a Kopitiam that serves raclette cheese from Switzerland .
So here I am queuing....to trying their yingyang fish & chips paired with salted egg yolk & Chilli crab sauce along with the Hawaiian raclette cheese chicken burger (bun not included cause it was sold out !) Manage to get our orders before it was sold out. So we made do with the the meat and the awesome cheese.
Verdict: it's all about the hype tbh. food was unique but abit too oily for my liking. but the overall taste was good! cheese and sauces was on point and I loved the charcoal version battered fish!
Try it now!! Sold out Super fast!

Well, it's all about that cheese, that naughty gooey cheese. If you order this, be sure to station yourself near the stall and watch the grilled Switzerland Raclette Cheese melt and flow down to the thick grilled chicken. Don't worry about everything getting too cheesy. ๐Ÿ˜œ The tomato puree brings down the jelak-ness and the pineapple chunks adds some zest and sweetness to the whole flavour. ๐Ÿ˜‹

There is a reason why I like salted egg, but I don't agree wth everything salted egg. This is a case where salted egg sauce (which btw isn't mentioned in the menu nor illustrated so) is unnecessarily added for a dish that would have been better left alone โ€” the entire dish was actually well-executed with the chicken breast encasing melted cheese and ham within, deep fried with a crisp exterior and with the meat still succulent. While the cheese was lacking of oozesome goodness, it is still considerably well-done for a coffeeshop stall selling western fare (the only place that does it the way I like it in a coffeeshop would be Happy Chef Western Cuisine at Crawford Lane). Flavours seemed to be a tad toned down so that the salted egg sauce has its place to shine, but that's just where everything lost its point โ€” the salted egg sauce takes the lead in flavour much as though one orders Chicken Corden Bleu to satiate the tastebuds for Salted Egg Yolk cravings; not something I would have ordered it for. That being said, it comes with a choice of two sides at $9.90 where I opted for the coleslaw and onion rings; the latter tasted like Burger King's with cajun seasoning. Salted Egg Yolk fans would possibly note that the sauce is refillable here, but Raclette cheese lovers would perhaps be more interested with the melted Raclette cheese shaved just right before serving at the stall for their Raclette Cheese Fries and the TWC Raclette Chicken.

Was so excited to see this dish on the menu of the newly opened western stall sitting next to Royal J's! We came here for their fried porridge but the offerings from The Western Co. had us drooling too. I'm bias towards thin straight cut fries for the crisp as most of such thick cut fries lose its crunchy texture quickly. The amount of raclette cheese used could have been much more generous. The thin coat of cheese that managed to only cover the first layer of fries dried up quite quickly and we ended up pouring in salted egg sauce to toss the rest of the fries in. Interesting offer here is that the salted egg sauce (which for us came with another dish) is refillable through your meal!
