Nested in a small humble shop at a corner of the Pontocho area, their queue started half an hour before opening.
The first thing that impressed us was that thin gyoza skin with crispy fried edges. It was juicy and tasty. Next, they had so many varieties of gyoza. From original to curry, mozzarella chicken, prawn, beef to egg yolk cheese, etc. We tried a number of them and they all tasted great.
They recently also opened another outlet nearby around the Kiyamachi and Sanjo Dori intersection.

These bright green morsels of joy were stuffed with Welsh leek (yes, it specifically noted they were from Wales on the menu) and went really well with a dash of chilli paste and dunked in soy vinegar. In the background you can also see the bottle of Mio sparkling sake which I had been dying to try. A lot softer than the real deal and only 5% proof, it had a delicate vanilla flavour followed by the distinctive but toned down sake aftertaste.

We have been so busy walking around and seeing the sites (averaging at least 20k steps each day). So not been spending much time online but have been doing so much I am constantly starving and have been eating my way through Japan! We discovered this little gem in Kyoto, after struggling in Tokyo surprisingly to find many good veggie options. This place is very high rated on @tripadvisor as one of the top places to eat in the city. Some even say it has the best gyoza in Japan! The only time we tried to get gyoza in Tokyo they had just pork options and nothing else. At Chao Chao they had about 50 different gyoza fillings of which about 20 at least were pure veggie and even some vegan options! I was in heaven. We went two nights in a row.... These are part of their special no meat menu, shibazukaze gyoza (pink ones) with soy pulp and Kyoto style pickles and the others are Yuba gyoza, freeze dried tofu with soy milk skin. Absolutely exceptional. I will be posting more gyoza as I tried loads but these were amazing and also very pretty. I can totally understand why Kyoto has a reputation as being a foodie Mecca!

📍Chao Chao Gyoza, Kyoto.
🍽 Pretty much everything on the veggie menu, but this was Shibazuke and Yuba Gyoza.
💵 1400yen (about 17SGD) for a veggie set menu with two sets of gyoza, a drink and a side (I had fries...👀 not shown).
📊 1000000/10.
