I have been constantly disappointed with pratas I have had everywhere else .
Cafe O is probably the only place that can make my prata the way I like it.
Crisp , light and not greasy .
The accompanying fish curry is always rich and tasty .
Too many disappointments from prata else where - either too greasy , not fresh ( because they were not made ala minute - usually made in stacks and pilled up ) or the curry is watered down - like curry powder with water .
I am further convinced that I should get my pratas here only - regardless of noises that say why pay more for a prata here.
It’s the quality ... Yo !
Comes with Soft Bun, 2 eggs, Hot Teh/Kopi. The food and drinks were good! Buns were crispy and soft at the same time, prefer this to Ya Kun’s toasts. Their eggs are less runny though. Overall a yummy meal 🍞🥚🥚☕️
However, the service was dismal in comparison. I was standing there for almost 10 minutes, but nobody told me what’s the “right side of the queue”. The queue only formed when I was about to order, but I had to re-queue. Then I was left standing like a fool waiting for my meal, even though they could have told me to take a seat first. It was my first time there, how was I supposed to know how the service works zzz. Disappointing service 👎🏻
❤️ the Kopi here. Althou slightly on the sweet side, it was milky and got good Kopi taste. Not at all acidic. They used a hand blender to mix it. I think that’s the secret to exceptional Kopi.
Egg Prata still as good but the curry gravy bowl had shrunk dramatically. I had to go back to ask for refill, which was done with no complaints. I guess this reduced wastage. Curry was very good. Flavorful and very spicy.
These were good for pre/post meal snacks. No carbo. Sambal chili went perfectly with both wing and egg.
Cafe O is my best bet to get an egg prata that is completely “Matte” and crispy .
Why matte - because there is no trace of oil.
And for those of you who have pet peeves of oily Prata - this Prata will be TOP on your list .
It’s pretty much like eating a crepe actually 😇
Be sure to request for non oily Prata and just to inform you - only a specific indian gentleman can make this order to my standards so I’d always be sure he does my Prata ( he takes the evening shift ) .
The curry is so aromatic without being greasy or oily :)
The best place to have Prata in air con comfort .
A very satisfying post-meal kopi break. I prefer the kaya toast here cos it was crispy outside and fluffy inside. YK toasts were just crispy and tasted more like biscuits to me. The sponginess helped absorb more egg, which was a major plus point for me. Kopi was as good as always.
The inner part of this cafe could get really hot in the afternoon sun so try to get a table nearer to the entrance for a cooler experience.
I love the Roti pratas at this hidden cafe . Cafe O is run by the same people behind the soup restaurant .
I know some like their pratas with a very crispy outer layer ( almost like the Chinese Cong you bing ) and some like theirs shimmering ( with a good amount of oil and fat ) but I like my Prata Matte ( hahaha ) and I like it done closer to how a crepe is done .
This is the only place I have been able to get my Pratas done my way by this Middle Aged Indian gentleman . Go before 6 pm if you like to see him perform his superb Prata tossing skills. I would only order my Prata when he is behind the stove 😀
The Prata is entirely oil free , with a slight crust and is accompanied by this flavourful curry chicken sauce which just explodes with flavours .
I can never get enough of their curry sauce .
At 2.50, this is such an affordable meal 😇.
Their prata is one of the reasons I cannot skip this place. It’s good anytime of the day. Morning breakfast, light lunch/brunch, tea-break, after dinner snack, you name it, I will eat this. Their fiery hot spicy curry makes me salivate before I even place my order. 🤤
They serve very good kopi and Teh here. Whenever I’m in Holland V, I always make time to come here for a post-meal drink. And maybe some post-meal fried chicken wings too! 🤤
Fluffy Egg Roti Prata
Some like their Prata crispy , some like theirs oily .
I like mine fluffy and soft and with no traces of oil and I finally found a place that can meet my requirements .
The Prata was soft and fluffy but still had a well charred skin - this must be one good Prata Chef .
I like going in the mornings because that's when the resident Prata Chef is on duty 😊
The curry accompanying the Prata was robust , had the right consistency and so well flavoured with spices . Best part was that it was served hot .
You might be surprised to know that cafe o is run by the same management of the soup restaurant .
This can only mean good - since the soup restaurant has been known for its high quality and consistently good food .
Their teh halia was also very good by the way - so make sure you get one !
My only gripe was that the Nasi Lemak rice was a little disappointing . It was not sufficiently fragrant and it had this sticky feel. I like my Nasi Lemak rice grains to have a harder texture and would appreciate if the coconut flavour was a little bit more natural . Perhaps basmati rice will be a better choice .
So in the meantime , skip the rice and go for the Prata :)
Plainly speaking, I like my pratas anything but plain.
Tried an egg one ($2.50) at "Cafe O" yesterday and found it really quite satisfactory.
Overall, it's fluffy as the layers of folded dough didn't clump together in a dead heap, and also lightly flaky and crisp in parts - a combo which is incidentally, my preferred texture for pratas. Size-wise, it's bigger than average. Instead of the usual dhal, or mutton and fish curry, this came with a thick-in-a-slightly-starchy-way chicken curry gravy.

The take things slowly one – you eat the sambal bit by bit with the rice and other condiments? Or the campur sekali one – you mix the sambal, peanuts and ikan bilis altogether with the rice so everything is a beautiful melange of red hot shiokness? I'm the latter but I usually one-up by breaking the yolk of the egg as well as cutting the otah into smaller pieces and weave both into the rice mix. But that's just me. Ok, that's all.
We've had condensed milk, we've got dusting of sugar, melted chocolate too, shaved parmesan if you feel a little atas, and anything you like really. So, herewith, I present to you, crispy and flaky prata coated with super shiok and slightly sweet sambal. Ok, that's all.
Crisp yet still doughy — my kind of canai — and beautifully fragrant with just enough ghee to make sure it's not excessively oily. It's in the north, you won't wanna come here. Ok, that's all.
Love that the nasi is very much reminiscent of the kukus-style of KL – soft yet firm grains of steamed rice enveloped with a nice waft of coconut milk. I judged my sambal based on how well-balanced it is in terms of sweetness and spiciness, and this one aced it. Oh...and look at the yellow of that egg yolk. I cleaned this all up in no time. Ok, that's all.
This roti prata is no inferior to those famous ones we normally know! Try it! The curry chicken is great!
This Cafe O in Woodlands though looking ordinary but they serve pretty nice nanyang kopi and toast! Their Prata is good as well, almost equivalent to those in Jalan Kayu and Causuarina. Come have a try!
$1.60 for kopi-O-kosong tid-lor. 五十年代 is still my favourite, but this is much better than the other two 👆. If I'm lazy to travel, this would be my nearest choice!
