Would recommend:
Squid, bread, shiitake mushroom, pork!
If you’d like an extra kick of flavour, ask for the 3 spice powder (调味粉) or chili powder mix!
Went to BBQ Box two days ago and ordered Beef, Lamb, Bread, Potato, Squid skewers, pork and chive dumplings, Zha Jiang Noodles and Suan la fen for 3 pax!😇 Paid about $87 for 3 pax. Bread and Potato skewers were really good!!😍
Overall ratings 8/10 as I do like skewers but this was on the steeper side and some skewers were served cold. This outlet is pretty cozy tho so id visit again if im near the area!😄
Until I try another place with as good 烤肉串, this shall remain the most authentic one. Think crowded, bustling place with a good list of meats, veg, Chinese beer and Baijiu. Brought back fond memories of my days in Beijing. All dishes are good.
Really nice skewers (~$2/stick) which can be placed on this box/platform thing over a small fire to help keep the food warm. Really recommend the 羊肉串 and buttered toast.
We ordered additional sides as well which were also quite nice, like the spicy lotus root and mala enoki (not sure what the exact names are)
Came here at 2.30pm to utilise Eatigo 50% deal so it’s more worth it! The skewers are nicely seasoned - must order the beef meat, mushroom, sugar bread, chicken wings and long beans!
The Cajun Roasted Chicken Mid-Wings ($3.80) ar really tender and juicy - got to order this when you are there!
We had the Chong Qing Noodles ($7.80) which is mixed in a savoury bean paste sauce. The slightly chilled noodles have a nice chewy texture.
The skin of the Dumplings with Pork and Cabbage ($4.80 for 6) is on the doughier side but the filling is decent.
For hot side dishes, the Grilled Whole Eggplant with Pork Sauce ($8.80) is one of my must-order items whenever I am here. The grilled eggplant is so soft that it melts together with the savoury minced pork sauce and each spoonful is a burst of flavours.
What stole the show for me is the unassuming 红油干豆腐丝($7.80). Strips of dried beancurd skin and carrot are tossed in a chilli oil-based sauce that has a hint of sweetness - so simple but delicious!
The 口水鸡 ($9.80) features chilled steamed chicken drenched in a fragrant chilli-sesame oil sauce and topped with chopped peanuts. Pretty good I must say!
Satisfied my cravings for Chinese skewers at BBQ Box! We ordered an assortment of skewers and the meat is generally tender, infused with char and packed with flavours. Some of the notably good ones include Cajun Roasted Chicken Mid-Wings ($3.80), Grilled Beef Tendon ($1.80) and Grilled Oyster Mushroom ($1.30).
Fresh and well seasoned skewers. Even though the queue was kind of long we were happy with the food served! It was not amazing but the place is affordable and closes around 12am so perfect to hang out on a Friday night.
Verdict: 3.5/5
Loved the chicken wings (spicy, original, garlic) and potatos. The sticks were well marinated with mala sauce and spice level was just nice (I am a 小辣 - 中辣). You can ask for non-spicy sauce too if you can’t take spice. Toasted bread with sugar too was life changing, must order! (up to 50% on eatigo)
⭐️ 3/5
Maybe I was just hungry, but nothing to complain about this. The bean paste and preserved vegetables certainly made this saltier than the zha jiang mian.
Pork belly, mutton, chicken and bread. They're all fine, but the true star was the partially hidden pork neck (wooden skewers). Pricier, but certainly one of the best Chinese BBQ I've tasted.
I must say this because one of my most hated food is labelled as French beans, one of my most loved food, in the menu. No thanks.
