Aliyaa's Classic Crab Curry was first served at the restaurant's original conception more than 14 years ago and has remained a menu staple ever since. Amma's Style Curry, its most highly regarded variation, is a recipe from Dr. Paravathy Kanthasamy, the mother of founder Abbi Kanthasamy.
Spiceheads — look out for this classy Sri Lankan restaurant in Bukit Damansara, where service is outstanding and the food is exquisite. Order the signature Chicken Kulaiyal (RM35), where fluffy rice, chicken and veggies are wrapped in banana leaf and steamed. Burppler Sunita S recommends pairing this with their Crab (from RM18) for a truly decadent experience. Burppler Sok Chien’s pick is the Chicken String Hoppe Kothu (from RM18) that’s spicy and super addictive! There’s a solid wine selection as well, all chosen to complement the food. The Sri Lankan-inspired Gin and Tonic (from RM30) made with Colombo gin is also good.

This sweet appam was a beautiful way to end our meal! Fluffy in the middle, and crispy round the edges, Aa Li Ya’s sweet appam comes topped with creamy coconut milk and chunks of gula melaka.
Fluffy rice with chicken and vegetables, all wrapped and steamed within layers of banana leaf. The spiciness cuts through the overall heaviness of the dish. Best shared between two people. Pair it with their crab dish for a truly decadent meal.
A perfect appam with an even more perfect egg dropped right in the middle. It’s both sweet and savoury, and goes great with the curries. One may not be enough.
