Located within Sin Chie Toke Huan (aka Upper Serangoon Road Hainanese Curry Rice) , Ah Lim Traditional Desserts serves up local desserts such as Chendol and Chng Tng amongst others.
The Traditional Chendol comes simple with only ice, Gula Melaka, Pandan Jelly and coconut milk (the Teochew Chendol would come with palm seeds, red bean and other ingredients), and is pretty satisfying. The flavours of the various elements balances out; perfumes of the richness of coconut milk while the Gula Melaka was sufficiently thick, yet not overly sweet and dominant unlike those variants which are created to showcase the Gula Melaka being used, while the Pandan Jelly was aromatic as well. At S$2.00 a bowl, the Traditional Chendol is pretty much a steal; one of a pretty good quality given its price tag.
Teochew Chendol ($2)
Always a rare treat for me to go for chendol desserts because of the heartstopping levels of coconut milk and gula melaka added. This bowl from Ah Lim dessert is calories well spent with that indulgent thick gula melaka generously applied here. Be sure to give it a shot if you are in the kovan area!
Refressssshing dessert from Ah Lim Dessert! There's a clarity and cleanness in their 汤 that makes theirs one of the best I've had. The ingredients are fresh but not the best variety (Four Seasons Cheng Teng seems the most awesome so far!) but what Ah Lim has is super finely shaved ice that just takes in the flavour of the cheng teng. 👅💦
