The wagyu beef looked so good on the menu that I knew I just had to try it. Looking at the marbling of those beef slices, I knew I was in for a treat. Being a seasoned foodie, I was more than right when the beef tasted more like a soft piece of sashimi that literally melts in your mouth. The soup base however was a tad salty.
I am not a big fan of fries/chips/wedges because it all taste pretty much the same to me. I reluctantly tried this and I realised that they can be rather delicious when done well. The potato skin was fried till golden brown and you can actually taste the crisp. What finds you there after is soft mushy potato which enhances the entire experience! Not to be missed out!
Toss & Turn is one of the few salad bars that has managed to break the notion of salads being boring and bland. I am loving the new selections of base, mains and toppings with the reopening of the Ion outlet. Some notable mentions has to be salmon which went really well with the miso sauce. And I like how there is a wide selection of supplements and I really like the garlic hummus which complemented well with the soft tofu.
I was rather disappointed when I was told the 1 for 1 only applies for the fixed sets. The pasta was rather overcooked as it was way too soft. The chargilled chicken was probably the best tasting item and you have to top up for most of the other items on the menu. Eventually it's not as affordable even with the 1 for 1.
There was lots of hype about this place over the course of the past few weeks and being a Japanese food lover; I just had to check it out. The first thing that caught my eyes were the prices, they look too unbelievably affordable to be true. I ordered this because I wanted a change from the usual ramen and boy was it the best decision. Kiwami is extremely generous with the portion of prawns and scallops which were well cooked because it usually becomes too dry or overcook when placed in fried rice. The rice too was well complemented by the ikura and egg. Honesty, I can't think of a reason why someone wouldn't give this place a try. You can probably find me coming back here for lunch very frequently!
I noticed my tendency to go to Aston's for their double up chicken whenever I am super hungry because it's probably one of the most value for money deals ever. The chicken was super tender and flavourful as usual. The only let down was probably the wedges which were a tad too soft and on the verge of becoming soggy.
Being lactose intolerant can be a huge pain in the ass especially when you are so used to drinking hojicha or matcha with milk. So imagine how my eyes lit up when I saw that Hvala actually had a no milk option for their hojicha. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how the hojicha tasted so good as the sugar didn't overwhelm the taste of the tea. Needless to say, each sip was god sent!
This is one of the few dishes which I thought came out to be a little underwhelming given how the eatery is a powerhouse with many delicious dishes under it's belt. The lala tasted very ordinary and I felt that the spring onion and ginger seasoning could be better used to bring our the best taste in the lala.
I lost count of the number of times I patronised HarriAnn because of the consistency I witnessed. I like how HarrisAnn is generous with their portion of chicken and potatoes; the former was very well marinated as you can even taste the curry in the chicken which comes off the bone easily. The curry broth was thick but I thought it would be more delicious if it were a little more spicy. Somehow, I could taste more of the coconut milk rather than the spice.
Though brother milk is famous for its renditions of some of the most popular dishes, I have to admit I was rather worries about this one. Because curry and crossiant isnt exactly the best combination since the gravy might be too dry or the crossing might get too soggy. Despite that, the Japanese curry was so well conceptualised as there were even carrots and potatoes which went well with the Michigan crossiant!
I had conjured a thousand images of how the eventual dish would look like and babasan still managed to surprised me. Though it looks minimal, the omelette was probably one of the most flavourful I have ever eaten in my life. The clever use of chop chilli helped to bring out the taste of the fish roe, prawns and scallop. The pancake was crispy and not too oily. Look forward to trying more of their other dishes!
Babasan is probably one of the most underrated eatery at the moment; then again I might be biased since I have been a huge fan since their uncle kiisu days. I was literally overjoyed when they came back with a whole new concept and with a bang may I add. I thought the crispy pork belly was something I had to try and the outcome was more than what I expected. The pork belly was super crispy that you could literally hear the crunch with each bite and the best part is the super soft meat that melts in your mouth. The mee siam and the gravy really brought out the best of the pork belly.
