#TheCulturalNoms
I decided to expand my search to the best food in the Asian region and no better way to start it off with the well-renown ginseng chicken soup in #Seoul.
Tosokchon Samgyetang boasts long lines for its famous ginseng chicken soup (from â‚©16,000 or S$18.90) but do not be intimidated as the restaurant is large with a high turnover rate so the queue moves by pretty quickly.
The Korean chicken (tojongdak) was extremely tender and the meat falls off the bone with minimal effort. Steaming off in a hot broth of ginseng, chestnut, jujube, garlic, ginger, adlay, perilla seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, nuts, pine nuts and black seeds, though it makes a very complex taste, the overall experience is subtle but calming and soothing.
It's a wonderful dish to have during the winter and early spring.
A trip to @wearesuperloco is never complete unless you have one of its popular Açaà Super Bowls!
The Açaà Super Bowl (S$15+) can be a breakfast course or even a dessert. What sorcery is this? The bowl is packed with nutritious and fresh ingredients such as ripe mango, sweet blueberries, coconuts, quinoa, chia and granola. It's so satisfying yet it doesn't make you feel too stuffed.
The açaÃ, which come from north of Brazil is brought in by the great folks of @selvafoods.
It's on the weekend brunch menu which is only available on weekends, 10am - 3:30pm.
Hello, my lovely.
This Breakfast Burrito is the ultimate hangover cure. It's absolute goodness in every bite.
Imagine generous shreds of rare roasted Angus rump, fluffy scrambled eggs, quinoa (yay, healthy eating), black beans and chipotle mayo all wrapped up in a toasted tortilla. Yum. I'd recommend you add a chunk of salsa rojo and a dash of Tabasco sauce with each bite. Result? Hangover, gone.

With many Easties aggressively defending their indomitable food fare, I just had to try their raving wanton mee (S$4.50/5.50) from Eng's.
This was my first visit to Eng's Noodle House. I'm quite the laggard, I know and regrettably so. (I wish I had visited sooner!) In terms of char siew and boiled wantons, they're normal. What does it for me though is the springy and slightly thicker noodles, together with the zhap, are absolutely slurp-worthy and great to chomp on.
However, what separates this place from the rest is the reputable extra spicy chilli sauce. I had disregard all safety and regular bowel movements so that I could satisfy my tastebuds with its sheer spiciness. One should add lard and chopped green chilli for utter perfection.
[PART 3] @manhattan_sg's cocktail brunch features an extremely impressive dessert bar.
Baked cookies, Negroni crème brûlées, darn good cronuts, margarita domes and baked Alaskas are among the delightful dessert spread available here. Besides the cocktails, the desserts were my absolute favourite. This is how I imagine the Mad Hatter's tea party would be like.
The cocktail brunch (S$150++ and very worth it) is only available on Sundays from 1130-1530 and making reservations are highly recommended.
Thanks to the wonderful hospitality of Andreana, Chef Nicholas and Bar Manager Philip. Also, thank you @Burpple for the invite!
[PART 2] @manhattan_sg's Sunday Cocktail Brunch features a cutting board with the chef's roast-of-the-day.
I had a few juicy and tender slices of the wonderful NY sirloin that's served with their peppery homemade signature sauce. Having that beef reminded me of Christmas, just that it was so good, it was a celebration in itself.

A feel good brunch that left me oh-so-happy.
@manhattan_sg introduced to Singapore the first adult-only cocktail brunch, and for that I'm thankful.
Besides the main attraction which would be its sophisticated cocktails, there's a wide assortment of free-flow wonderful bites.
There are starters, a delicatessen counter (salads, cold cuts, baked breads, condiments), oysters & seafoods (ceviches, lobsters, scallops, Alaskan King Crabs, shrimp cocktails), the chef's roast-of-the-day with a live cheese station and delectable desserts.
It also has a bunch of hot plates including my favourite but sinful PB&J Waffle. A perfectly cooked fatty slab of foie gras decked on top of a chunk of cornbread waffle with raspberry jam and peanut butter.
I stuffed myself with three and I had to stop for obvious reasons. I kept on with the cocktails though. 😉

Good steak with a fuss-free experience.
@braseiro_sg is a simple Brazilian-French influenced restaurant without the over-the-top, fancy decor. It's just a place that focuses on giving patrons a good meal.
I had a great medium-rare flame grilled ribeye steak (S$19.90/24.90/29.90 for 200/300/400g respectively). It's one of the few places that get the doneness spot on. The meat can get a bit chewy but overall very tender. However, for that price, I have zero complaints!
The restaurant also serves beef skewers and roasted chicken as its signature meats. With any order of its signature meats, it comes along with free flow lettuce and the oh-so-addictive handmade fries.
The hand cut fries had the skins still on and went so well with the various dips and sauces available. I could have stayed all night just munching down the fries.
A comforting and heartwarming meal.
Ma Maison's take on its Beef Stroganoff (S$16.80++) was more savoury than the original Russian version due to the use of Worcester sauce. The omelette was wonderfully runny and fluffy though I wished the rice was piping hot instead of it being just lukewarm.
Overall, it was a value-for-money meal.
Now you don't have to travel all the way to Redhill for the famous Hong Seng Curry Rice.
Tucked in at @sgsmu's School of Economics is a tinier but modern stall in contrast with its 20-year-old counterpart at Redhill.
It's where many come to get their Hainanese curry png fix in the heart of town.
The fiery curry sauce has the right amount of savoury spice that doesn't further scorch your tongue, especially undesirable with Singapore's heat. My favourite part is definitely its special sweet sambal ikan bilis (available in take away containers)! The sets go for S$5.50 and include a main meat, a sauce, a fried egg, sambal ikan bilis, chap chye, rice and a drink
Wish the stall was opened while I was still at SMU. My lunch conundrums would have easily been solved.
Refreshing cocktails after a hard day's work.
Located in Chinatown, along the former red light district of Jiak Chuan Road, is Mariko's - a Japanese fusion tapas bar.
It's a bar great for conversations with the absence of blasting music and glaring lights. I throughly enjoyed the cocktails and snacks though the mains were less than impressive. A particular favourite of mine was the Mariko's Orchid (S$25++), an ingenious concoction of the more subtle #AbsolutElyx, pineapple juice, caramel liqueur, cinnamon syrup and a flambéed passionfruit purée. It's a smooth fruity drink but the sheer volume would guarantee a happy buzz.
Thank you @marikos_sg and @burpple for hosting and inviting me for the dinner!
A dessert that may cause concern upon seeing the ingredients list: laksa leaf ice cream, pomelo and green chili.
Well, with high risks come high returns. Each element is subtle but overall, the beautiful assemblage is refreshing while there are gentle hints of heat from the chili and laksa leaf. It's a treat which engages the senses.
