It took me years but I’ve finally tried Matchaya and it’s so good! The matcha flavour for the soft serve is so rich and intense! One serving is $5.90 but there’s a #BurppleBeyond 1-for-1 promotion for a soft serve + drink which is a saving of $10.

Eggstraordinary eggs & snags that are indeed extraordinary.

Bearded Bella co-owner Regina mentioned that this brunch dish was inspired by a cafe in Melbourne and having it really did send me back to the city!

Each element of this dish worked so well together to create this hearty and scrumptious meal. For the eggs, they were beautifully coated in a light umami crispy crumb that encapsulated the rich golden runny yolks. The chicken harissa sausage entails a spicy and piquant flavour which balances the pleasantly tangy beetroot purée, the delightful bitter asparagus and the rocket leaves with thinly sliced parmesan. An overall grand slam of a brunch dish!

Had the privilege of trying out LINO on its opening day and I was left impressed.

LINO has established itself as a contemporary, modern Italian restaurant, serving atypical Italian dishes but of course with a twist such as hummus with peperonata, grilled octopus and a chopped iceberg lettuce with radicchio (all great by the way).

My favourite of the night was the pizza. Places that get pizza right always have a special place in my heart. The mixed mushroom pizza had a beautiful thin crust that was crispy at the edges but slightly chewy and doughy at the centre which I love. There were also three indulgent cheeses used: fior di latte, fontina and taleggio. Besides the generous portion of mushrooms, there were copious amounts of truffle cream which makes every bite one to savour.

Perfect for the cold gloomy weather.

I went to Hup Lee Cafeteria towards its closing time (3pm) and there was not much of a queue thankfully. My favourite aspect of having my mixed fish bee hoon is definitely the infusion of the evaporated milk into the soup. There is really no point having it without evaporated milk. There are also loads of lettuce, mustard greens that help to enhance the broth. The fried fish was a bit soggy but that could have because I went rather late. Otherwise, a really comforting dish that I slurped my bowl dry.

Finally got to try FOOK KIN located at Killiney Road. This establishment is the brain child of the Muttons duo and Roast Paradise - people who love food and make good food - so you can only expect good things.

I had the Roast Paradise rice bowl which consists of all three house roasted specialities such as the duck, char siew and siew yoke; an egg; pickled vegetables; fragrant rice and soup. As the pork was good, the real standout was the duck as it was juicy and bursting with flavour. Another hit was the rice! It’s extremely potent in flavour that one could just eat it on its own.

For people who aren’t fans of unagi, Uya also offers a classic sashimi rice bowl. The sashimi is fresh and is still quite a hearty portion. The set also comes with a salad, soup and pickles. If you’re feeling lavish, one can add a portion of uni or fatty tuna at $9++.

Revisited Uya and once again tried its signature hitsumabushi (M $35++, L $48++) after half a year and I’m glad to report that the standard is still high.

Though pricey, it does still serve a hefty amount of eel that even a medium size, fills me up (which is rare)! For those who have yet to try this, the eel is smokier and more charred which goes well with the dashi broth or the less sweet tare sauce. Really worth trying once in a while!

At last, Muchachos has reopened at a new location at Frasers Tower at Cecil St. Here the interior is bolder and brighter but still offers the same awesome Mexican favourites.

One such favourite is the California burrito that has a hefty amount of carne asada or grilled sliced beef and, that’s right, FRENCH FRIES! Add the popular spicy Cholula hot sauce and you’ll have no qualms finishing this huge burrito.

Finally got some time to go out for a proper meal and a great one it was!

Man Man Unagi Restaurant has been on my wish list for the longest time and I'm so glad to have tried this place. I understand now why this restaurant garners such long queues.

The large hitsumabushi (S$39.80+) comes with three different styles of eating - by its own, with condiments such as wasabi and with broth. The unagi is so fresh, evident from all the live eels in the tank.

It was such a satisfying meal. I will definitely be back for more.
