It's one of the iconic places for supper in Singapore. Opened 24 hours daily, Meng Kitchen is the place to get your bak chor mee fix. We love it doused in vinegar together with the soup.
We also recommend the side of fish cake. Be patient and don't expect fantastic service as this place gets hectic at times.
So there’s this stall called “Best Lu Mian in Town” at Whampoa Drive Market. Not only do I wish I had their confidence but I think their bold claim is substantiated!
Upon first bite of the noodles, I pretty much fell in love with their lor mee. The yellow noodles have a robust taste and QQ texture. They have an amazing chili that goes with the braised pork, fish nuggets and fried flour bits.
Is it truly the best? No. Would I recommend it? Yes.

Holy cow. Pretty much how I would describe this bowl of beef sukiyaki don.
Finally opening its doors to the public today, I reared up for a visit to @ramen_keisuke’s newest concept, Beef Sukiyaki Don Keisuke. I queued up for close to 2 hours before getting seats while also being notified that they ran out of the wagyu slices. 😫 Looks like I have to come back another time. Nevertheless, I settled for the beef sukiyaki don which uses the chuck eye roll cut of US prime beef.
I wasn’t settling for less but a meatier and beefier (duh) taste. For the price point, this bowl is so attractive as it comes with a slab of braised tofu, shimeiji, onsen egg and veggies. It also comes with appetisers such as sesame tofu with wasabi and miso soup. Overall, it’s one of the best beef bowls in terms of taste. I’ve got to try the wagyu to see if it’s the best in taste AND texture. .
I love the open concept in which you can see every process of the cooking done in the kitchen which makes the dining experience extraordinary. #burpproved
So satisfied!
Can’t believe there’s such affordable Japanese in the CBD area. For $13.90++, you can have Gyoza King’s gyoza set meal.
The set consists of 5 gyozas of which you can select either pork, chicken or prawn, Koshihikari rice, a soup and two side dishes. I opted for the stir fried egg with Chinese chives because LOOK AT HOW RUNNY IT IS. It was great when one eats it with the rice. I also picked the chicken nanban because who doesn’t love fried chicken.
You may also choose deep fried chicken with spicy sauce and mixed sesame, spinach with soya sauce and bonito flakes, pork sukiyaki with raw egg, stir-fried brinjal with miso, deep fried prawn with mayo and deep fried white fish with tempura sauce.
A scrumptious rice bowl packed with lots of flavour!
I ordered the pork jowl don because it sounded like such a hearty dish on the menu.
Atypical of most rice bowls, this comes with garlic fried rice which is superb when mixed with the onsen egg. Some people would prefer to have uruchimai, or pearly white Japnanese rice, but I think the fried rice makes for a more well-rounded dish. The grilled pork cheeks were tender and well-cooked and seasoned. Definitely left wanting more!

Singapore style ramen noodles? To me, it’s upscaled HK wanton noodles which taste out of the ordinary!
I saw that the queue was shorter than usual so I took the chance to finally try this Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded establishment. Firstly, one can’t ignore the aesthetics of the dish which is what draws the crowd. More importantly, the taste is great too due to the homemade sambal and dried shrimp sauce. The dish also comes with extremely tender braised char siew, the usual wantons, the hot spring egg and the crispy potato wrapped prawn (which I’m not really a fan of, would rather more char siew).
It might seem a lil pricy coming in at $8/11/15 a pop but I think you’re paying for premium ingredients and TLC. I mean look how the bowl is painstakingly plated!
Not your typical fish soup stall but what does it for us is the robust fish slices and the spicy belachan chili.
Besides the ordinary batang, they use Red Garoupa ($5-7). We're not sure what sorcery they use, but the fish is so thick and succulent, almost the consistency of prawns.
We love having breakfast at hawker centers and we love having noodles. The fishball minced meat noodle ($3/4) from Adam Fishball Noodle is no exception.
The stringy mee kia noodles have a nice bite to it and the fishballs and fish cake have a bouncy texture.

An explosion of flavours in a bowl 💥💥💥
For $3.50, one gets a large hearty bowl of Penang Assam laksa. First, you'll get hit by the fragrance of Assam which will make you wanna order it. The sweetish prawn paste mixes perfectly with the sour tamarind and complements all the strong flavours like lemongrass, pineapples and onions. Every bite is both refreshing and savoury! 😝 Ensure to mix well before eating!

Not the most visually appealing but definitely one of the best.
A big draw to Kok Sen is its famous Big Prawn Hor Fun ($16, 32, 48). The rice noodles have a nice char and wok hei which add a bit of texture and fragrance to the dish. The best part though is definitely the thick eggy sauce. It has small red chilli flakes that add a lil' spice to the hor fun which differentiates itself from other typical hor fun variants. When I was done with it, I was already wanting more!
