Be prepared to wait between 20-40 minutes at Yew Chuan Claypot Rice in Golden Mile Food Centre. Nice crispy char at the edges of the rice, along with tender chicken meat and it is not overly salty with the salted fish.

One of the signature dishes on Wan Hao’s CNY Menu. Can’t believe next Saturday is officially the year of Rat!

The Pesto from the relatively new Caffe Cicheti is spaghetti tossed in shaved parmigiana, done to an al dente texture and full of umami flavour. We can have this over and over again.

Glutinous rice wrapped with egg, one of the unique rice dishes we come across this CNY season from Szechuan Court in Fairmont Singapore.

For a hotel buffet spread, the desserts at Oscar’s Sunday Brunch spread is really quite on point. We were pleasantly surprised, not to mention the free flow Mövenpick ice-cream counter, our favourite convenient Swiss ice-cream brand.

This Wagyu beef is our mains for the 4-course set which goes at $98++, a relatively competitive price for an omakase meal. Overall, this feels like a relatively under-the-radar restaurant where bulk of diners are Japanese for now, which is not surprising given that the head chef is a Japanese.

Not bone marrow per se, but this is actually butter from @TheNomadsSG, a 2 months old restaurant at Far East Square which focuses on Central Asian inspired omakase and dishes.

One of our favourite course, this course is the Nomads Nan with Hunter-Gatherer’s Butter which is a traditional Kazakhstan-style bread. The flour for the bread here is fermented overnight with yogurt, and the piping hot bread is served with seaweed and foie gras flavoured butter, sinfully good.

If you are looking for an exotic type of Omakase, this is one restaurant to check out. Full review on our website.

A very decent plate of fried carrot cake where you can have the best of both worlds at Hock Soon Carrot Cake stall (01-20).

One of the Yu Sheng options this year is this Hokkaido King Scallop and Black Caviar Yu Sheng which is really impressive. We tried calling the restaurant to enquire about the private dining rooms for the CNY period which are already filling fast.

While @BlueJasmine.SG is a Thai restaurant, there will be a good mix of Chinese and Thai dishes for the CNY eve buffet spread. Can’t end off the meal without having some Mango Sticky Rice!

Contrary to the name itself, we like it with purely ‘you tiao’. Tell us we aren’t alone!

This stall in Maxwell is not too bad, named as Rojak, Popiah & Cockle.

Instead of it being braised, the Pen Cai from @MitzoSG is a dry rendition, with each item done separately and served together in the pot. This is quite different from the rest we had, and is surprisingly delicious.
