I got the coin prata with curry chicken. I've not had coin prata in awhile. These were alright. I prefer coin prata to be crispier with flaky skin. The chicken curry was a surprise. It's not the usual watery curry you get with prata. This was thicker and full-flavoured as the chicken has really soaked up all the spices. Very yummy. For $7.50, this coin prata set with the curry chicken is quite worth it.

What was a 30-40min drive became almost 1.5hour journey. One positive thing that arose from that was the discovery of this old chang kee eatery at ang mo kio mrt station. I've always liked OCK's curry chicken. It feels light and not too spicy. The chicken pieces are tender with the meat falling easily off the bones. But for some reason this particular one tasted a tad diluted 😒 Otherwise it was an enjoyable break in the long journey to the (north)west. 😋

When I first arrived, I was actually doubtful whether I was in the right place as the building was like a ghost town. Many of the shops were covered by off-white/cream drapes as they aren't open yet, I guess. Pu3 was possibly the first few to open their eatery. Very easy to find. Just above the Fairprice Finest.

Food is as good as I remembered it to be at their old Bencoolen St one. I think we over-ordered and couldn't finish 😅 Nice place to hang out and catch up. Easy parking too (not sure if this would change when more shops open for business!)

Serves traditional Malay food. Wide variety of dishes available. I got this giant chicken leg to accompany my meal. It's deep fried yet not overly dry. The power sambal on the side added a kick to the entire meal. Sedap. I also added serunding (grated coconut) which is quite rare to find these days unless you buy nasi ambeng. .

So this time I tried the rice. The chicken oyakodon. It came with miso soup. I also ordered a side of gyoza. The oyakodon is smooth as expected. Just the perfect combi of chicken, onion and eggs cooked in their dashi and served over the fluffy rice. I was surprised by the addition of edamame in the bowl. Guess they added texture and crunchiness to the bowl. Itadakimasu.

This Salted Caramel Waffle is da bomb seriously. When it was first served, we were wondering why is the buttermilk waffle so thin (looks like the Malay lempeng - so leper! 😂) but as they say the proof of the pudding yadiyada. So yeah when we tried a pinch, it was just uhmazzing good. The sweet ice cream melts on the perfectly shaped buttermilk waffle drizzled with salted caramel sauce gives that equal parts sweet and salty. And the feuilletine adds a layer of crunchiness with tinge of sweet crispy crêpes. Heavenly. .
Accompanying our dessert was a game of "Who in the room..." which was so fun. Basically, each card contains 3 questions. You ask question and everybody points to the person who fits that description best. Simple enough. But after several rounds, you start to question your own preconception of your colleagues and friends as you discover nuggets of information that you never knew about them. 😂 .

When I suggested Nasi Dagang, my colleague did a double take: "Huh? Nasi Kangkang?". 😂 Bruhhhh, that's a different type of nasi lah.

Anyways I had the Nasi Kukus with Fried Chicken. What is interesting here is that the rice is steamed in individual aluminum bowls/cups, which gives the rice a unique texture. You could see the individual grains of the rice. Although I was hopping it was fluffier, it went so well with the thick curry sauce 😘 The fried chicken is da bomb. You could taste the spices that marinate the chicken and it's fried to perfection while retaining the juicy flesh inside. The sambal on the side is 🔥 nice but super spicy. Be warned. Dip a bit of the chicken into the spice for that zing 😋

So my colleague who misheard "nasi kangkang" ordered the "nasi dagang" (swipe left to see how it looks) and was giving two thumbs up to it. He said it's really good. Definitely worth going out for it.
