Haven't eaten here for so long so decided to go and try it out. We ordered the butter crab and the waitress did a double take to verify if we really wanted butter and not chilli or black pepper. She explained that butter crab is dry and there's not much of a gravy or sauce. I know I've been playing tourist the past week but do I no longer appear local? π Anyway yeah we confirmed our order.

What I like about butter crab is the buttery batter that is used to fry the crab. Yes it's 'dry' and yes there are times when I want to dip my mantou in the chili crab or black pepper sauce but I do take crab cooked in butter sometimes.

We also had the roasted chicken which is another personal favourite. I like it especially if the skin is dark red and crispy like Peking duck π This was not too bad. The chicken meat retained some juices even as the skin was roasted to crisp. I like the whole ambience of this area. It's like you're in another world. Less harried and more balmy

Launched on July 16, the BK Laksa Burger together with the Rendang Burger (yasss it's back!) celebrate our local hawker dish which is timely given that NDP is just round the corner. .
First impression of the Laksa burger (I had the Tendercrisp Chicken version; it's also available in Double Beef) is that it's pretty messy π See all that sauce dripping and soaking on one side of the burger? The first bite brings to mind the Rendang burger. Quite similar in terms of upper notes and texture. What sets this apart is the strong hebi/dried shrimp flavour which is one key ingredient for the laksa sauce. True to laksa, there's a slight tinge of spiciness to this (but not overwhelming just nice). What's interesting are the slices of hardboiled eggs which lend an interesting twist to this burger with an added crunch of the sliced cucumbers.

Overall it's ok. If you like rendang burger, you'll probably like this one too.

I do like sweet potatoes and so I thought I'd have to try the Sweet Potato Stuffed Crust Pizza from @pizzahut_sg First off, it's only available in Hawaiian topping (either regular or spicy). I'm not a fan of Hawaiian pizza in general but the spicy version has chicken chunks that taste like their sweet & spicy drumlets, which was real nice. I do wish they allow us to edit the toppings (I would have liked to remove the pineapple chunks π - sorry not sorry) Overall, pizza was ok. The stuffed crust with mashed sweet potato and melted cheese is just yummmz. Love it. But you must eat it while hot. Once it cools down, you start to have that 'jelak' feeling.

Glad to see many more outlets of the Crave's nasi lemak. I usually go with the the royale set. But I found that this particular outlet hmmm didn't quite meet my expectation (the rice is a tad dry). My friend said it's hard to ensure same quality across all outlets. Hmmmm perhaps so. But the plus point here is an overly friendly cleaning auntie who had 101 questions about why I don't eat peanuts (doctor's orders) and why I don't finish my drink (not my choice of drink I wanted a cup of coffee but they don't serve it here) π

The hot weather calls for a cold Thai milk tea π But it's that purple drink that called me to this @amphawathaiteaco shop in JB City Square. Called Lanna Ungu (Purple Lanna??), it's like a frosty version of taro milk tea with streaks of caramel syrup π And on top of it (nestled in the whipped cream) are sweet potato crisps and caramel popcorn. As indulgent yet refreshing as they come. Totally loving this π I also absolutely love their tagline "above all, be authentic". Life's too short for fakes .

Two chicken patties that seem to have shrunk on the plate π It's quite forgettable really. The only thing I liked are the different sauces that came with it - bbq, hot sauce, honey, original, etc. Dunked all the chicken pieces and even the veggies in the sauces π

Pre-lunch snacks of oyster mee sua and the crispy chicken π The mee sua is served piping hot and so soft. Just slurp it all down together with the lemon tea that comes with the set that also includes sweet potato fries. And of course no visit to shihlin is complete without the crispy fried chicken. I'm pretty sure there's some msg in there but it's just oh so good π Happy Sunday folks

Glad I 'tapao' these onigiri (rice balls) from the Family Mart earlier. They come in handy when hunger strikes while binge watching on Netflix (I just started on Designated Survivor: 60 Days π)

Now on to the reviews. The Ajitsuke Tamago onigiri is probably the closest thing you'd get to the onigiri you'll find in the Family Mart in Japan. ε³δ»γε΅ (ajitsuke tamago) literally means soft-boiled egg marinated in soy sauce (usually found in ramen). Altho what you get here is half an egg, it's pretty tasty as the egg whites have absorbed the marinate very well. Goes very well with the rice. Soft and chewy

The Spicy Kampung Fried Rice Onigiri is not bad. It reminded me of nasi goreng kampung (which is spicy cos of the chilli padi and has chopped up anchovies which I can't take too much of). Due to the anchovies, this one has a slightly stronger taste to the usually subtle onigiri. .
Finally, the Spicy Syiok onigiri. Ok this one made me break into a sweat. It's bokkeumbap (Korean fried rice) onigiri that has a slice of Turkey bacon (in lieu of a seaweed strip) wrapped around it. The rice is super spicy. The taste reminded me of the Samyang hot chicken noodles. Maybe they used that sauce to fry the rice π
But it's quite tasty.

But if I have to pick out of the 3, the one that I would probably buy again is the ajitsuke tamago onigiri. I'm all for innovation but sometimes the subtle flavours still work better for some cuisines π

I've been going to Tambuah Mas since hmmmm dunno when (old already cannot remember) but the food is still as good as I remember it to be.

We had the usual tahu telor, singkong (tapioca leaves), beef rendang, and ayam goreng istimewa (fried chicken special). The tahu telor well fried and goes super well with the black sweet peanut sauce (wish there's more of it!). The singkong was well-cooked and the gravy is so lemak π Had wanted the pepes ikan (fish otah) but they ran out of it. Didn't over-order this time but my stomach wasn't cooperating. Felt very full too quickly π
