TB to my "free meal" at Hei Sushi. I wanted something different. So I picked the chicken nabe (Japanese hot pot) with so many different veggies in tom yum soup base. It's really delectable. I'm not sure if this was meant for sharing (the wait staff brought two small bowls with it) but I finished this - almost everything - by myself π γγ‘γγγγΎγ§γγ (thank you for the feast!)

Had the Cajun Chicken Burger which was yummz as always. Juicy - double - chicken patties with veggies and cajun sauce. The accompanying fries are the best! It's not always you get these fries with skin. They feel more honest π Prices are reasonable and there's discount for safra/hometeamns members π

If you like that type of curry puff skin. As for the filling. Ok I could taste the chicken bits and some spices but to call it laksa is a bit of a stretch. If I this were a blind taste test (#birdboxchallenge haha) I wouldn't have guessed laksa. .

First impressions: when I opened up the box, I could smell the familiar fragrance of the mala spices. That instantly perked up the senses π The first few bites of the chicken, which is really crispy on the outside, doesn't give that same mala hotness. I didn't even break a sweat π But after I finished the first piece of chicken, I could feel a bit (just a bit) of that numbing sensation that's often associated with mala hotpot. π But that's all there is to it. Overall, it's pretty decent. But if you're expecting the full-on mala hotness, you're better off going to an actual mala hotpot stall. I think the mala spiciness has been dropped a notch to cater to a wider base of consumers including those who want to try mala but can't even handle the ε°θΎ£ (mild spicy) .

Ok the sweet smell and taste of yuzu is very apparent. Each bite of the crispy flesh brings visions of the sweet citrus fruit that's the ingredient of many Japanese summer drinks. What's missing I thought was the peppery kick. Was waiting for that "zing" which didn't come. But overall it's pretty good and I definitely like it. .

But when two different people asked me if I had tried it, I just felt compelled to get it. π Why I was of two minds about it is (1) I would have preferred actually chicken (wings or drumsticks) like what you can find at the Mac's up north and (2) if it's fried chicken patty, it better be able to top the mcspicy which I hold to be the "gold standard" of chicken patties π

So how did this one fair? Ok yes it's crunchy and juicy and yes there's the dripping oil when I sunk my teeth into it. But it pales in comparison to the mcspicy patty π What saved my meal were the curly fries and the chocolate pie π

π‘) that it really smells Summer or Natsu in Japanese. Speaking of Natsu, it's also the name of the unassuming halal-certified tempura don specialist. Their menu is basically rice with different types of tempura that you fancy - there's veggie, ebi (prawn) and even chicken (which is not something you see often in japanese restaurants). I picked the chicken tempura. It's pretty good. You get two chunky pieces of chicken fried in tempura batter as well as other veggies including pumpkin (swipe left for photo) and there's even an onsen egg that's runny and velvety. Mad love π Unfortunately there are no seating here, so you gotta take away or order in via the food delivery services. That, I felt, compromised the quality a little. As tempura don is best devoured π when it's still piping hot. Otherwise, this is pretty decent and I look forward to trying the other variants. .

Bumbu at Queen's Road has always been our go-to place for catch-up since the days we all used to work in the same place. Today, we're all working at different places but still share the common passion to jiak jiak jiak. We like the ambience at this particular outlet with its little nonya kind of decor. The environs remind us of the housing estates of yesteryear where neighbours hang out and chill under the stars and kids run free and play with no worries as the "void deck" is actually on elevated ground and hence away from the cars (car park is below).

My friends would agree that the standard of food has maintained - if not improved - over these years. Totally chuffed as we always have a tendency to over-order when we are here. There's a back story to that but it shall be for another day π Now I'm just too full to even type. TGIF.

The Sausage McGriddles with Egg of course. Was so excited that this was coming back and I couldn't wait to sink my teeth in it. The moment I unwrapped it, the familiar sweet fragrance of the maple-flavoured griddle cakes hit you. Sandwiched in between the sweet are the savouries: the sausage patty, a sunny side-up egg and melted cheese. I know some people may be crinkling their nose at the thought of the sweet and savoury coming together. But believe you me this is how breakfast should be enjoyed π .

My friend thought I'm a fan of Vietnamese food. Actually my only introduction to Vietnamese food is So Pho π Decided against my better judgment to get my usual soup. Instead I tried this glass noodles with chicken. As you can see, it's actually overrun by veggies. Not so many chicken pieces π The glass noodles were fried nicely. Not too dry or hard. Neither too oily. It feels light and healthy. π The chicken pieces were grilled to perfection. I just wish there were more of it though. π
