Yassin Kampung needs no introduction with their wide variety of yummylicious halal zi char style of food. This time round, I was most interested to try their sichuan mala diced chicken (bottom left in first photo). My oh my. Just looking at the dried chilli already made me salivate (and perspire a little).

It's really shioks for you spicy food lovers. What I really like is that the chicken cubes are bite-sized and absorbed the mala spices so well. Even though they're fried up, they're not oily at all. Chomp down with the peppercorn for the explosion of flavours in the mouth. Totally worth the calories 😘

The famous Joo Chiat Kim Choo has launched halal versions of their dumplings under a brand extension called Kim Choo Kid (should it be Kim Choo Kia? 😂 jk). Available at 7-eleven stores, each dumpling costs $2.80. Two flavours available - nonya chicken and salted chicken.

Both are easy to prepare. Just pop it in the microwave on high (800w) for about 1min 15sec and you get piping hot zhang. It's not wrapped in the traditional bamboo leaves (I kinda miss those) which means you don't have to deal with sticky fingers. Just use chopsticks or a fork to eat mess-free 😋 Between the two, I prefer the salted chicken which comes with mushrooms and chicken (of course) in fragrant rice that's steep in soy sauce. 😘

I was intrigued by this coffee less sugar pie from BK. The crust is their standard turnover crust - crispy and flaky just the way I like it. The coffee filling though I'm not sure I'm a fan. It tasted like molten kopiko sweets but less sweet of course. I'm a fan of kopiko sweets but this form wasn't to my liking. 😒

The chicken tan tan ramen available for a limited time (?) at Ichikokudo Hokkaido Ramen is a 10 out of 10 for me. It's not like your usual clear or very light broth. This one packs a punch with its creamy white sesame and chicken/seafood broth that's topped with mala spiciness. It's yummy umami to the max. (For those whose insides churn at the word mala don't fear, it's more of the 小辣 (mild spicy) and definitely not  大辣 (extreme spicy) 😉) I added an onsen egg to the bowl for an additional $1.50

Why I like this is because it really took me back to the ramen I had at the raumen museum in yokohama years ago. Back then halal ramen was very hard to find. I was lucky that my host took pains to cook a special bowl of ramen using halal ingredients from tohoku. I think they knew Singaporeans love their spices and that bowl was so umami yet spicyliciously hot that I was sweating despite it being in the thick of winter. So this Tan Tan Ramen felt so authentic like the one I had in Japan all those years back. .

You can never go wrong with the Thai Grilled Chicken Boat Noodle at @saapsaapthaisg The grilled chicken is done well. The soup base is slightly tangy and a little hint of spicy but not overwhelmingly so. 😘 I'm not a fan of the chicken meatballs but they add a different texture to the bowl

For sides, we had the wing and drumettes in saap saap sauce (which is sweet-spicy and hints of kecap cili api). Deep-fried and well-marinated, these wings and drumettes are a must for every meal here. But do note I was told these are only available at the OTH, WGS and Jewel outlets.

The latest offering from @kfc_sg is pretty legit. The fried chicken doused in lots and lots of crispy cereal with nicely fried curry leaves that add that nice fragrance. For those of you afraid of spicy food, fret not. This comes with just a tinge of spiciness that really adds a textured layer to the fried chicken. Definitely worth all the calories.

I haven't had kebab for awhile after I suspected the last kebab place I patronized had mixed chicken with beef when I had specifically requested for chicken. Yes I have trust issues. Anyway this was yes chicken kebab. Not adulterated. And it's pretty solid. I actually had trouble finishing this for lunch. So moral of story? Never judge a store by its front. 😂

Opened by the Tenderbest company, you can get their familiar favourites like roasted chicken leg. There's also some fusion food like this mee siam d'pasta which is essentially mee siam using spaghetti with the mee siam paste cooked in a creamy sauce. It's not bad actually. Just a tad too creamy. It feels more like alfredo sauce than mee siam. But no complaints there especially for alfredo fans like me. I had the ondeh2 cake to finish the meal. Nice and sweet (but not "potong kaki" type). I like the decor and chill vibe of this place. Quite unlike others around the neighborhood. Service is good too. A great place to hang out.

I haven't been to this place for ages. This citrus tea was so refreshing. I didn't quite understand what the wait staff was saying about adding the liquid sugar for a more sour taste 😂 Anyways it was good just like that without sugar. Now I need to catch up on some sleep.
