Pork Knuckle After the dismal first try at their Jln Sultan outlet, thought I should try the one done by Toa Payoh outlet as recommended by my friends who have had patronised this outlet as very value-for-money - to get a whole knuckle at such price, at a neighbourhood Coffeeshop, and they do a good job in making the knuckle. I was initially hesitant thinking it might be a small knuckle. It was a pleasant surprise when I saw the portion/size! And love the Hot crisp crackling! 👍

Quality Food At Affordable Price This picture doesn’t do the food enough justice. This is 1/2 pork knuckle with two chicken chops. The amount is enough to feed 2. We used the burpplebeyond 1 for 1 and ordered another 1/2 pork knuckle with spaghetti for two starving gluttons. The whole meal costed us $18.9 and was good enough to serve 4. The food was so good we finished everything even though we were so so stuffed. We were so full we had to skip dinner. Glad we found this place. Definitely coming back even if there is no 1 for 1 coz it’s worth it!! No regrets👍🏻

Satisfying Value For Money With Burpple Beyond Deals Everything was perfect except the fantastic four sausage. Not that the sausages were not nice, however personally find it relatively not worth it to have 4 sausages at price of $25.90. Located in a coffee shop. Only downside about the ambience was there were many smoking elderly chilling out.

Sambal Stingray @$13 $13 onwards The stingray is fresh. Very pricey thou. On TOP of the sambal, it’s sprinkled with chilli padi and a saucepan of chicken rice chilli Spicy madness

Mattar Seafood This place does crabs well and at a decent price point. Fresh and meaty. The fried rice though was a miss and I would skip that next time.

Finally Tried This Legendary "Zichar" Hawker Stall This is one of those stalls I have heard so much about over the years but somehow, I'd never gotten around to trying their food. I guess you can blame it on the high number of tempting options at Old Airport Road Food Centre. Well, I finally had dinner there with my parents tonight and most of the dishes turned out to be really good. Of the four items we ordered, the white pepper crab was the hands-down winner. The sauce packed a potent peppery kick but more importantly, it's very fragrant thanks to the huge amount of butter used. Both the stirfried vegetables and the onion omelette were full of "wok hei" and really tasty as well. Now for the not-so-good part of the meal. I am sorry to say this but the sambal stingray which I had the highest hopes for, was disappointing because unfortunately, the flesh of the fish was tasteless. That could have been saved if the sambal had been shiok and spicy enough. Sadly, even with the "belachan" mixed in, the sambal lacked fire and was strangely rather bland. I hope this was a one-off that can be attributed to a unusually weak batch of chillies or something along those lines. Anyway, our total bill came to $82, inclusive of 3 bowls of rice, which is very good value. If you are keen to visit, do note this stall is only open from Thursday to Sunday, and from 4pm to 10pm. They sometimes close a bit earlier too.

Miso Ramen Filling me up nicely, Jimoto-ya's Ladies Set does just the job for those who enjoys a full meal without overeating (in my opinion) as food coma after lunch seems inevitable for me. Priced at $18++, the set serves a choice of 2 side dishes with a petit ramen and dessert. For a more robust-tasting broth, their Miso Ramen is ideal for those seeking a stronger profile yet not overwhelmingly so. Ticking all the right boxes for me, the umami base had a great blend of flavours and just the right amount of saltiness. The springy noodles were also well-executed with a nice satisfying bite! All this topped with crunchy sliced cabbage, half an ajitama egg and meatballs.

Shio Ramen For something lighter, dip your spoon into the Shio Ramen's broth. Clear and fresh, the base was very "drinkable" and tasted more familiar-somewhat like a mild as well as delicate prawn noodle soup. The aromatic mix also bringing together the individual sweetness of the pork and prawns used. Though the portion seems measly, the lunch set was really substantial and more so with the sides. A must-try is their crispy and evenly breaded tori kara-age as the meat inside was surprisingly succulent and juicy!

Toss & Turn Cheese Wheel Carbonara ($16.90) pasta was cooked in a full round giant cheese wheel partially hollowed out into a bowl, tossing it in the cheese bowl will slowly melt the layer of the cheese, and viola! The result was a nice and cheesy carbonara. This is a highly recommended dish to order when dining here.

Hawaiian Fried Chicken excuse the bad quality photo but i forgot to take one in my excitement and had to use a screenshot in a vid) JK loved this one!! the panko crusted chicken thigh was moist and tender despite its crisp outer covering! the combination of the racelette cheese and the tomato concasse went so well tgt + the fried skin gave a varying texture which i rly liked! also, their sweet potato fries is super good (while fries are usually just a side this was really well done, crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle)

Chicken Rice Sushi ($4.90) A classic Singaporean dish but with an unique Japanese twist . Slices of soya sauce chicken on top of neatly molded blocks of chicken rice and garlic bits, drizzled with teriyaki sauce and garnish of fried ginger, shallots, and spring onions . Their soya sauce chicken was really succulent. Overall the dish was good but there’s room for improvement as the blocks of chicken rice were a bit inconsistent in the texture. And also the rice to chicken ratio wasn’t really balanced . Nonetheless I believe the dish has the potential to be even better .

Yin Yang Chicken Rice Set (8.90) Wonderfully plated, with the chicken being delightfully soft & moist. Silky at its best. The soup, is wonderfully flavoured, I wasn’t expecting the sweet, winter melon soup. But definitely heavily laden with MSG. I have never felt so thirsty before, make that extremely thirsty! I drown myself with at least 2 bottles of water. It was THAT BAD. I felt like I was in a desert, dying of thirst. Would I go back again? NEVER.

Crispy Chicken Rice Balls ($4.90) @roostcafe Crispy Chicken Rice Balls ($4.90) usually sells out before dinner. Deep-fried bread crumbs encase a mashed rice and chicken stuffing that's flavoured with chicken stock. Its crunchy and light batter is a delightful contrast to its soft insides that aren't too dry. Dip these morsels into their house-made chilli sauce to highlight it with a spicy and sour tinge.

𝗧𝗼𝗺 𝗬𝘂𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮 ($𝟭𝟳.𝟵𝟬) Prided as the dish which made them famous the tom yam seafood pasta came highly recommended by the staff! The spaghetti was cooked to a good al dente and there was a generous amount of prawns, clams, topped with a glistening mussel! The tom yam sauce was aromatic, brimming with spicy and sour flavours. Balanced out by the cream, the pasta was not tooooo spicy, spice lovers can opt for additional chili. With elements of both asian and western cuisine, this fusion dish was executed surprisingly well. We can see how this is a crowd favourite.

𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵 & 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗲 ($𝟭𝟵.𝟵𝟬) This featured a huge fillet of dory fish encrusted in a thin crispy batter which sat atop a bed of fries and garden salad. The alscampi sauce was not as creamy as we expected but was chockful of seafood which added to its sweetness and texture. This was a filling dish!

Newly opened here just last Fei is The Dining Place by SG's "Ironman Chef" Heman Tan. One might remember Royal London Duck that previously occupied this spot at basement 1, The Dining Place also prides itself for its Irish fat duck, along with its noodle and dim sum offered here. We tried its signature treasure box that included a sampling platter of its roast meats, dim sum and noodles. We enjoyed the bamboo noodles with that special XO mushroom sauce and big plump onsen egg. Their char siew would appeal to those who prefer leaner meat although we wished it was fattier and juicer. The Irish fat duck definitely stood out, so much so we would go for an ala carte portion of it next time. Comparatively, the dim sum in the box played decent supporting roles to the formers. Overall, this would be recommended to those who enjoy more variety for a meal, especially when it came at an appealing price of $13.99.

Bamboo Noodle Set LunchAt $13.99/12.99 respectively, it’s quite affordable to have a ‘grand sampler’ type of meal. The noodles have good texture and they are thoroughly mix with their mushroom sauce plus a onsen egg at the side. They are backed up with a bit of everything that is available at this diner.. Two sets available here. One comes with bamboo noodle plus XO sauce and the other is their signature somen. Unfortunately the somen was sold out at our point of arrival, but at least everything else is available. Very nice place with ambience Ordered the French toast n waffle breakie, very nice French toast, and both the breakfast comes with generous portion. Very filling after eating. Like their idea of using waffle for the breakie instead of usual bread.

Knots burger $30 Nice decor with a lot of plants. Green with a garden vibe. The food was okay. Nothing great but not bad at all. I figured people come here for the insta photos and not the food. I ordered the beef Burger and the shrimps aglio olio with some green juice and affogato coffee on the side. Burger and drinks were good. Pasta was ordinary. Overall spent $60, which I did not regret at all. But don't see myself coming back soon. Oh also they don't not accept credit card or pay wave, which is really old considering the high price point

Surf and Turf Platter ($69.80). This place was fully booked when I went for a tasting on a Sunday afternoon. I could understand why it's full, because prices here are very affordable with their steak buffet going for only $29.80. That's unlimited slabs of steaks they could have. 🔸 Although it was very popular with the youngsters that packed the place, I didn't like the food that much. This is a huge platter that has lots of seafood and meat (mussels, scallops, crayfish, grilled squid, dory fish, grilled chicken, 1/2 rack babyback balinese pork ribs, fries, onion rings and choice of 3 sides), but I'm a fussy eater who values quality over quantity. 🔸 And perhaps because it was full, it resulted in a couple of service lapses. I'm not completely confident of recommending this place, but I know its attractive pricing, especially for their steak buffet, should still please many.

Colossal Platter A little birdy whispered in my ear: " A plate of meat for you & you & you & you my dear." For just $39.80 you get a smorgasbord of meaty goodness - chicken, fish and beef along with three sides of your choice! Perfect for 4-5 people, or a smaller party looking for big gains. This is only available on Mondays after 9pm for a limited period so it's best to head down soon. Just a pep talk before you do: it's not quality but quantity on the agenda, so go BIG or don't turn up at all ;)
