Fried Chicken Paradise? All Bout Chicken was feted as one of top 3 fried chicken in Singapore by a food vlogger. I finally got down to checking them out earlier this year. It was not hard to understand why as the batter is shattering crisp without being brittle and the meat was juicy and tender. This remained the case even though it was sitting in the car for nearly 30 minutes on the ride back home. I also love that their chicken is made to order and served piping hot. My only complaint is that the chicken needs a little more seasoning. I know there are some who prefer the natural subtly sweet flavours of chicken meat but I am one of those who prefer a well seasoned fried chicken. Yes, there is quite a wait for their fried chicken but it was definitely worth it. The wait is also made more bearable since the uncle helming the stall is chatty and friendly. So do come down and check out all bout chicken!

Chicken Mac Spicy No, this ain’t the Chicken McSpicy we all know and love, but it’s All Bout Chicken’s very cheekily named spicy Mac and cheese with minced chicken going at $4.90 a serving. It is surprisingly pale in color, I was definitely expecting something more red and...violent, considering its touting as a spicy Mac and cheese rendition. The crumbly bits adorning the top is the spicy minced chicken. The Mac and cheese itself is surprisingly light. The béchamel sauce slathered upon every elbow of macaroni was not too dense, yet retained more than enough creaminess to satisfy any Mac & cheese aficionado out there. The minced chicken was unfortunately underwhelming, as it was a bit bland and wasn’t really all that spicy despite me ordering the ‘regular spice’ after a quick exchange with the chef/stall owner. Overall, while the Chicken Mac Spicy was passable, it could’ve been a lot better and had a lot more spice and flavor. Better yet, they could’ve smothered it all under a blanket of cheese, pop it into the grill and turn it into a Mac & cheese bake. However, what really saved the entire dish was the most unlikely of things: the garlic bread on the side. On paper, it’s just some panini with garlic butter on it. However, in reality, the panini was perfectly toasted, and it was more than amply coated with the impossibly garlicky butter. Addictive to the nth degree. The Chicken Mac Spicy has a long way to go for improvement, but the garlic bread on the side is positively perfect. The whole shebang is best enjoyed with satay and bbq chicken wings from any of the nearby stalls, beer from the drinks stall at the end of the row, and the boys.

[Invited Tasting] Two’s a Company ($7.20), Chicken Mack Spicy ($4.90) & RJ Original Pizzawich ($4.90) One of Chomp Chomp’s latest entrants, @allboutchicken.co is a Muslim owned fried chicken concept and are opened from 12pm - 12am during the CNY break as well as 4-11pm in most days. We had some of their recommended dishes and thought that they were pretty good. The Chicken Mack Spicy, an interesting fashion of local and western cuisine results in a Mac and Cheese that is topped with spicy minced chicken. My favourite though, is the RJ Original Pizzawich. A combination between pizza and sandwich, it has spicy minced chicken sitting on a bed of egg mayonnaise base topped with cheese, onions and jalapeño. The flavours came together nicely and wasn’t too overwhelming, must-try if you find yourself here ◡̈

Fish & Chips Yum yum!!! Tasted it for the first time here and it's halal certified. I got Cheesy Affair fish & chips at $10.90. Taste is superb as there's cheese in it too. Not oozing but just right for me. Pasta available too and other sides. Try it to believe it.

Cheese Karaage Pasta Cheese Karaage pasta (SGD8.90) Basically cheese on top of karaage with seafood sauce pasta. The cheese karaage is bomb!!! (Crispy) Pasta is nice too. Nice place, affordable, plain water self service. I want to come back.

Cheesy Affair Fish n Chips ($10.90) surprised that the fish was so small.. and there wasn't as much cheese as I had expected :< not as wonderful as I had expected too.. probably cuz I was too occupied with the tomyum pasta\(o_O)/

Signature Noodle ($7) It's dry based noodle. They got different ingredients inside the bowl. I find that their noodle was slightly hard to chew thru and sweet sauce was quite diluted and sweet (probably can add more vinegar to balance it off)

Settle our Monday night dinner at Encik Tan having their Hainanese curry rice with chicken cutlet ($4.30) and fried fish ($5) set serve with generous scoop of spicy curry gravy . The curry is rich, creamy and flavourful with hint of spiciness in it. Yama Gyudon Stewed Beef slice, onions, rice, house made marinate and sauce, shibazuke, onsen egg, spring onions. The Gyudon here is rather popular, it was initially on the menu for 2 months, but has now become been extended till further notice. Overflow with spring onions and topped with an onsen egg. U have to really stirred the egg into the entire dish to really feel the shiokness of this gyudon. I added an additional onsen egg as I liked my gyudon extra eggy. The beef slices were tender and was well marinated, was not dry whatsoever.

Bowl Chap - Part 2/2 The intoxicating aroma of lemongrass and the juicy chicken made the 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝘄𝗹 ($12.90) an excellent dish. All bowls come with cherry tomatoes, edamame and an onsen egg. They were pretty hearty but I felt the pricing was too steep.

Bowl Chap - Part 1/2 The last time I tried Bowl Chap, it was still a stall in a hawker centre. Now an eatery in a commercial building, the dining area is more comfortable and the prices, naturally, are higher. The 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗶 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝘄𝗹 ($16.90) featured beautifully charred salmon which I loved, but I felt the sambal mayo wasn’t pronounced enough.

Curry Chicken One of the best curry chicken sets in town . Affordable and tasty . The curry was flavourful with strong hint of spices . My only complaint is that the chicken had a meaty smell and didn’t give me the feeling that it was fresh . Maybe they could just serve the curry gravy with potatoes 😝. The set comes with a fried egg and some stewed vegetables .

Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice ($6.80) Featured on foodking, this place never disappoints. The curry was thick and fragrant and the chicken had a biscuit like coating. Lovely

Overly Sweet Chendol Been wanting to try the chendol waffles at Hideout for a while. After a failed attempt a few weeks ago when we arrived at 9pm and found the cafe closed, we reached at 8.30pm this time. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to try the waffles once again as they were out of ice cream. This none of the desserts with ice cream could be served (chendol waffles, pulut hitam waffles, ice cream croissant, etc). I was tempted to try their cakes (they had earl grey and chocolate banana) but ended up going for the chendol ($4.50). Bad choice. The chendol arrived quickly. The ice, though fine, was completely drenched in sugar syrup. It was WAY too sweet for any of us to take more than 2 mouthfuls. I ended up scooping the red beans and shaved ice at the bottom of the bowl which hadn’t soaked up the sugar yet to eat with the chendol pieces. I did like the texture and taste of the chendol, but the sweetness of the shaved ice really threw me off. We basically left about 90% of the syrup-laden ice in the bowl after scavenging the red beans and chendol pieces. I’m quite disappointed that I still haven’t managed to try the chendol or pulut hitam waffles at Hideout, but their mains look pretty interesting and I might make a trip back to try. However, the chendol is a no go in my books and I would not recommend it to anyone else unless you have an extreme sweet tooth.

Nasi Lemak with Salted Egg Chicken Hidden at the basement of The Heeran, this is actually a good place to have your meal consider they have lesser visitors at the moment. They actually generous with the amount of chicken pieces and their salted egg sauce was excellent. $12.50

Nasi Lemak With Ayam Rendang Pretty happy to have found a cafe serving our local dishes with their own system of customisation. Take this Nasi Lemak for instance. It starts at a price of $8 which I assume, covers the basics of the rice, fried egg, ikan bilis with peanuts, cucumber and sambal. Then depending on what you choose to add, the total amount increases. I picked the Ayam (chicken) Rendang which was fragrant and tasty. The other options listed on the board included Ikan Kuning and Edamame with Corn. What I found to be the highlight on this plate was the sambal. It’s dryish, more savoury than sweet and when eaten with the coconut milk-rich rice, very shiok.

Tonkotsu Ajitama Ramen Seriously the last time I came here was so long ago, before COVID time. Today I found the reason to grab my quick meal before a show nearby. Found out about this stall called the Hokkaido Ramen Ezokura. Went for their tonkotsu ajitama ramen. Flavourful broth with tender meat and soft boiled egg.

Ramen 4.5 ⭐️/ 5 Got the Spicy Miso ramen. I really loved the flavourful broth which wasn’t too spicy, which was great. The ingredients in the ramen were generous as well. Do drop by because you won’t regret it at all! There are other food options in the area as well so you’ll definitely be spoiled for choice.

Tonkotsu Ramen Ezokura Special($18.75)👍🍜 Thin, wavy and slurpy noodles in a bowl of rich, umami and creamy Tonkotsu broth. Each set comes with a choice of Thai milk tea or Thai iced lemon tea. @popejaithai, a Thai casual dining restaurant and a social enterprise that supports 8 different beneficiaries through training and employment. They are also helping private hire drivers during this covid-19 period. Read generally positive reviews about them, and with quality food at nett pricing, there’s nothing more that I would ask for. Their Tom Yum dishes were filled with herbs; lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves were distinctly found even in the Tom Yum seafood fried rice. The Tom Yum soup was slightly on the spicy side, but not to the extent of leaving your stomach burning. As one of the popular dishes from Pope Jai Thai, the garlic honey chicken was pretty interesting. It somehow tasted like bak kwa, probably due to the honey, but at the same time exuded a mildly fragrant garlic aroma. Even as the food had turned slightly cold due to delivery, the fried chicken was still flavorful and retained its juiciness. It was just a pity that it was cold, same for the Tom Yum soup. One appetizer to try is the golden square tofu, that had the sweet Thai chili and chopped peanuts as condiments and toppings. I liked that their Thai milk tea wasn’t overly sweet as they had told me it was of a fixed sugar level. They have set meal deals (main + drink), a la carte mains, zhi-char style dishes for sharing, appetizers, & dessert too of course. I was happy with the food I ordered: · Phad Thai Set (Seafood) with Thai Lemon Tea (Cold) - $8.80 nett · Stir Fried Tanghoon Set (Vegetables) with Thai Milk Tea (Cold) - $8.80 nett · Homemade Thai Prawn Cake (3 pieces) - $8.80 nett · Clear Tom Yum Glass Noodle Soup (Seafood) - $8.80 nett · Garlic Honey Chicken (Large) - $15 nett · Garlic Baby Kailan (Medium) - $11 nett I usually don't like paying for delivery, but their $5 delivery fee (min. $20 spend) is reasonable. Delivery service was also satisfactory; my food arrived on time (within the 30 minute window - in fact, at 12:22PM when I requested for 12:15PM delivery!). My soup was shrink-wrapped at the top to avoid spillage, & the dispatch rider had stored my food in an insulated bag (warm & cold in 2 separated bags) during the ride 👍🏻 Would order from them again & when circuit breaker period is over, I'd like to pay their dining establishment a visit too - they're conveniently located at *SCAPE.
