We heard that Inle Myanmar sells pretty authentic Burmese food and we headed down for lunch to give their dishes a try! Being a sucker for fried rice, we ordered the traditional fried rice ($10). The serving size was really generous and it may actually be a little too much if you are a small eater.

The fried rice was great! It was fried with a generous serving of shallots and onions, giving it a decent fragrance. The fried rice here has two distinct features - it was fried in tumeric, giving it a really yellow colouration, and the rice used here was shorter and rounder, and it felt a little softer than the fried rice found at most of our tze char restaurants. Nonetheless, we felt that the rice grains were a little too soggy for our liking. The rice is also much saltier than the local varieties here, so you may want to request for less salt beforehand if you prefer.

The rice was served with a fried chicken thigh (not shown), and the chicken was coated with tumeric too, which gave its exterior a yellow hue as well. While the skin was crispy, it was rather tough and the meat wasn't tender as well. I guess we were not used to the firm texture, although it was pretty yummy in terms of flavour.

Lucca's Trattoria has moved from its original spot at Robertson Quay to it's new location in Tiong Bahru (near the Tiong Bahru Market) and the new location is far more spacious now! Furthermore, the outdoor dining area is sheltered so for those of you who choose to dine outdoors, you no longer need to be worried about whether you will lose your table in the event of a downpour. 😁

We decided to try their carbonara and we were rather disappointed at the standard, however. First and foremost, we felt that the pasta used was really thick and too doughy - we suspected that they used spaghettoni although we think spaghetti would have been just right. The pasta also tasted pretty strange because it was rather firm and yet it was a little too thick at the same time, which didn't make the dish too enjoyable. While the gravy was pretty cheesy and decent, we thought that the serving was a little stingy and the restaurant could offer us more gravy to coat the pasta with.

Lucca's Trattoria uses bacon strips that were 50% meat and 50% fats, and we absolutely loved the fats although some of us may find the bacon a little too gelat after a while given that they are pretty fatty. Nonetheless, we don't think the dish was worth the $26++ that we paid and we would be better off trying their other pastas or pizzas instead. 😰

We were having dinner in the Tiong Bahru area and we decided to pop by Creamier for dessert as we were in love with their ice creams after having paid their Gilman Barracks outlet quite a few visits. We visited before 8 pm so it was still pretty empty, but when we left, it was getting rather crowded with the post-dinner crowd.

Creamier's waffles are served in the form of two smaller square pieces! They are also slightly fluffier than those at many other dessert parlours and because they are also more airy, you won't become as full from the waffles! Highly recommend although we think it is quite difficult to eat the waffles since they are stacked on top of each other with the ice creams placed on top. Do move the ice cream scoops to the side before attempting to eat the waffles!

For the ice cream, Earl grey lavender was great although the Earl grey flavour was far more pronounced. If you are not a fan of bergamot, definitely dont think you should be getting this flavour. The pistachio scoop was also fairly concentrated, and we liked the nutty flavour of the scoop. Both scoops also melted pretty slowly, so we could actually have our ice creams over a conversation and there was no rush at all! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Sadly, quite a few flavours were sold out when we reached and we were disappointed that the flavours were pretty limited. Hope to see more flavours next time!

We were looking for great eats in the Novena area and we came across La Ristrettos, which is a cafe hidden on the 8th floor of Novena Medical Centre. It is pretty crowded if you are planning to head there for lunch on a weekday, so do be prepared to head down at 11+ if you wish to head down to avoid the queue.

We ordered the fried tilapia bruschetta as their savoury bruschettas seem highly-raved on Burpple. Note that these are not your typical bruschettas as they are pretty big and are definitely enough to fill your tummies! The fish comes with tartar sauce and generally resembles a dish of fish and chips without the chips, and was served atop a slab of sourdough toast. The toast was fairly hard and definitely required some effort to bite. Nonetheless, while the dish was an interesting combination (fried fish on top of hard bread was a first for us), we thought it wasn't exactly wow. The dish was priced at a pretty average level of $15++, but it was certainly sufficiently filling!

We would be happy to head back to La Ristrettos to try out their coffee as we heard that their coffees are great.

We decided to try out another new drink on Tap's menu - the Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout! While the menu indicated that it would taste very chocolatey, we felt that the entire drink was masked by the rather intense bitterness of the stout itself and there was almost no hint of chocolate in the drink. This was quite a sharp contrast to the Lost Coast Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout that we tried before at Tap, which actually had a relatively strong peanut butter flavour in it! Definitely don't recommend trying this drink unless you are a stout-lover, as we felt it was nothing very special.

You may wish to note that Tap has increased their prices and the normal flavours now cost $12++ while the premium flavours cost $14++! The Great Divide Yeti is considered a premium flavour so the drink does cost quite a fair bit at Tap.

We are back at Apiary again and we got a table for 2 in 5 minutes on a weekday evening. It was still pretty crowded and noisy (plus a little cramped) though, and it definitely wasn't a nice place to have a chat.

Today, we got a waffle with a scoop of strawberry ice cream and another scoop of pistachio ice cream. Both scoops were really great - the pistachio ice cream was more nutty and not as sweet as that served in other ice cream restaurants, while the strawberry ice cream wasn't overly sweet and it could still bring out the strawberry flavour sufficiently! The ice cream flavours were definitely pretty gentle and were not overly concentrated.

The waffle was crispy and it was also pretty thick. It can definitely be a little filling if you are visiting Apiary after dinner!

However, desserts at Apiary are on the more expensive side, as we paid $15 for the waffle and two scoops of ice cream! Both flavours were premium so they cost an additional $0.50 each. 😰

Tanyu's mantous were some of the biggest that we have seen, so order on the basis of one per person at most! However, we liked that they were served really warm with a crisp exterior and a rather fluffy interior. πŸ˜‹ Be sure to pair the fried mantou with the condensed milk because while the plain mantou tastes decent, adding the condensed milk gives it an additional layer of sweetness and makes it a great appetiser! Given the size, paying $5.50++ per mantou is pretty good value.

The Tanyu outlet at Tampines 1 was surprisingly empty on a weekday evening and there wasn't a queue at all. Definitely a big contrast to the outlet at Orchard where there's perpetually a long queue for a table.

We were pleased to find that +886 Bistro has garnered a strong following since our last visit - the restaurant was full when we visited on Friday night and we had to wait a while to get a table!

This time, we decided to share a plate of deep-fried enoki Mushrooms with salt and pepper as an appetiser! While the dish comes with other flavours (e.g., mala, sour plum), we thought we would just go with the basics and request only for salt and pepper, which would be hard to go wrong! Indeed, the dish was great as we were served with around 6 bundles of enoki mushroom encased in really crispy batter and the salt + pepper added a yummy layer of seasoning! As anyone who eats enoki Mushrooms would know, it can be a challenge to chew an entire bundle together (especially since one bundle is pretty huge here) so you may want to break up each bundle into a few mouthfuls!

Highly recommend this side dish as it's very delicious and priced very affordably at around $5++!

We came across the brightly-lit Glacier Cafe in Bendemeer and we decided to pop in for a post-dinner treat! The cafe was pretty crowded on a Friday evening with the supper crowd since it is open past midnight on Fridays, so do be prepared to wait for a table if you are visiting in a big group.

Glacier is pretty famous for its pandan Mochi Waffles so we decided to try it out! The waffle was really thick and while the pandan flavour was very mild, the mochi was fairly generous (plus surprisingly thick) and you could get pretty gelat from it after a while. πŸ˜‹ Hence, strongly advised to share this treat with someone else!

We got the osmathus oolong and espresso biscoff flavours to pair them with our waffles! The osmanthus oolong flavour was tilted much more strongly towards the oolong side, and you could distinctly taste the light and somewhat smoky flavour of the tea in the scoop! On the other hand, the espresso biscoff flavour was really heavy and you can taste a very pronounced coffee flavour in the scoop. Both scoops were really impressive! 😁😁 However, dining here wasn't cheap and we paid around $17 for our dessert although we think the food here is definitely worth a try!

We had to pay a visit to Burnt Cones after our breakfast at Sunset Way and we are always pleased that they are open for ice cream even early in the morning! Today, we decided to try the Ube ice cream with a matcha cone, which was priced at around $6. Pretty reasonable for a single scoop on a cone.

The Ube scoop is basically a yam-flavoured ice cream and to be honest, it was really the vibrant purple colour that caught our eyes (looked pretty artificial to be honest). You can definitely taste the yam in the ice cream, but we thought the yam flavour could be stronger (something similar to orh nee) and there was a little too much sugar in the scoop.

The matcha cone sounded pretty interesting and it was great as you could really taste that tinge of matcha in the cone! However, one downside is that the cone is single-layered and really fragile so you have to be really careful not to press too hard on the cone as it will crack and you will get a mess! 😰😰

Burnt Cones was really crowded on a Saturday morning as they serve other brunch fare. Also seemed like they were really short handed as we heard the staff say that it's a 30-minute wait for waffles with ice cream! So be prepared to spend some time waiting for your food to be served but otherwise, it's a great place 😁

Tamjai Samgor has opened in a small corner at B2 of City Square Mall and we decided to give it a try! We went on a Saturday evening and it was still pretty empty - probably not many knew that the restaurant existed!

We ordered the signature mala broth with mixan, alongside fishballs, sliced chicken and tofu. This added up to slightly over 10 bucks, which was pretty decent.

However, we ordered the 1/2 小辣 and we thought that the spiciness and numbness of the broth was a little underwhelming. It definitely used to be a lot spicier when we tried Tamjai Samgor during the opening of their first outlet at Chinatown Point. Hence, you may want to up the spice level if you are game for it since the spiciness at the City Square outlet seems to have been watered down quite a fair bit.

Deep-fried chicken wings that were marinated in shrimp paste and these were really yummy! The wings were fantastic as they were served piping hot and as such, you may want to be careful before eating them. The dish costs $14++ and do take note that there are only 6 wings, so you may need to order any serving if you are visiting in a bigger group. Definitely a pretty decent appetiser!
