Chocolate Kurtos ($7) consisted of matcha sauce and matcha crumbs. Finally tried it after a long time. But the kurtos was quite mild texture (not that soft or strong). But chocolate was quite milky texture and not much chocolate aftertaste. But matcha sauce got weird sauce and not that nice tbh.

Chausson aux Pommes Some people might familiar with this name, as Nicher used to sell their artisan pastries at Tiong Bahru. Opened by ex-MBS chef, he now continue baking at this location; which could be very far from town area. In this outlet, he now focused much on French bakes instead. Chausson aux Pommes is actually the Apple Turnovers, which is filled with apple sauce in it. Something mix between sweet and sour, with soft texture of skin. You also get enjoy your Burpple Beyond here with one for one bakes.

Matcha White Chocolate Muffin ($4.50+) I felt that matcha taste for muffin and sauce itself was quite weird and sweet tbh. I always missed this limited edition flavour a lot of times since they released on Apr or Sep depends on the seasonal period. But the muffin was quite dry and complement with white chocolate sauce inside the muffin. It was a bit disintegrated, sauce melted it off and got oil spilled it through (paiseh due to misplaced)

CHRISTMAS SPECIALS AT WOLFGANG’S STEAKHOUSE This Christmas, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse is serving their Christmas specials for two, starting with an appetiser of either the Waldorf salad or cream of cauliflower before a choice of entree which we chose the USDA roasted prime rib served with beef jus and cream horseradish. The main highlight of the meal was beefy and nicely seasoned which is served bone-in and you can gnaw the meat off the bone which has the most flavours. Accompanying sides include sliced honey baked turkey ham that is juicy and tender, baked sweet potato, sautéed wild mushroom that has an umami touch and sautéed haricot verts. End the meal with a dessert of ube tiramisu.

Juicy Portahouse steak Went to Wolfgang's steakhouse with a few of my colleagues. Ordered a portahouse steak for the mains. This is the portahouse for 3 and it's enough to feed 4 people. It comes with the sirloin portions at the sides and the fillet mignon portions in the middle. The fillet mignon parts are better than the sirloin parts. We had it medium rare and it was perfect. The service staff was particularly helping in recommending that the portahouse for 3 was indeed the best value because it comes with a better ratio of fillet to sirloin, and informing us that it is enough to feed 4 people.

Hawker Burger ($32) Type: Restaurant/Western fusion An interesting burger with lots of toppings. However, was kinda disappointing. The pork jowl and pork belly was too fatty, and the Sambal Mayo wasn’t that spicy and slightly gelat. Chilli fries were good though, and big portion! My rating: 2.5/5 ⭐️

Pad Thai Fries ($16) Type: Restaurant/western fusion This dish is really fragrant and so interesting! It’s pad thai but replaced with sweet potato fries. Actually, it tastes really good and flavorful! Just that, my personal preference is for crispy fries. For this dish, the fries become soft quickly due to mixing with the sauce. Still recommend to give it a try! My rating: 4/5 ⭐️

Sriracha Wings ($16) Type: Restaurant/western fusion The meat for this dish is tender. Overall, a pleasant fish. The taste is light but you can definitely taste the sriracha and lemongrass. Somehow, the combination didn’t go that well for me, as it felt gelat after 2 pieces. Maybe need to be more spicy? My rating: 3/5 ⭐️

Napoleon’s Hat Always been pretty exciting to drop by the favourite place of the late since they seem to be changing things up and experimenting with quite a number of new pastry and bakes of the late. For a start, they have since done away with most of the high tables that were at their East Coast Road outlet; those have been replaced by long tables and benches for the high tables situated near the kitchen area, while the high tables just outside of the shophouse are replaced with outdoor tables and chairs that are of a similar height to regular dining tables and chairs. Air-conditioning has also been improved in the dine-in area closest to the kitchen as well to improve dining experience overall. They have also been dropping some surprises in the pastries and bakes that are on the menu as well; from the various tarts and galettes that we have featured, to the Walnut Macaroon Cake and the Pasteis de Nata — some being a limited-run for a particular weekend. One of the newer bakes that we have tried during our recent visit to their East Coast Road outlet is the Napoleon’s Hat — essentially a shortbread pastry that contains almond marzipan in the underside, but features a chocolate dipped surface on the top; the pastry is named as such due to its resemblance to the hat that Napoleon Bonaparte is known to wear. Liked how the shortbread was pretty much easy to chew through here — it holds up the shape pretty well, but quite easily disintegrates without needing much effort to bite; the marzipan provides a hint of almond fragrance and a slightly neutral note to the chocolate ganache over the top. All in all, a pretty good snack to have alongside the coffee! Really have been quite glad on how they have seem to be trying out lots of different things of the late — does keep things pretty fresh and interesting for regular patrons considering that they have remained much the same over the years. Definitely looking forward to what is to come for them!

Lime Meringue Tart Pretty astounded by the pace of how the favourite place has been introducing new items of the late. While they had recently only introduced both sweet and savoury galettes into their selection of bakes that are proudly displayed in their display shelf alongside their loaf cakes at their East Coast location, we had noticed the offering of various tarts on certain days as well which includes a Classic Pecan Tart, a Dark Chocolate Tart and the Lime Meringue Tart as well. Sour desserts, and especially tarts, do pique our interest a little more so we found ourselves ordering the Lime Meringue Tart when we saw it being available during our recent visit there. For those who have been to Brawn & Brains Coffee at their Guillemard Road location a number of years ago, one could recall that there was a short period of time where they did offer a Lemon Tart and a Chocolate Tart as part of their pastry offerings — these are completely different from those we have had back then. Interestingly, Brawn & Brains Coffee has taken a different approach with the meringue in the Lime Meringue Tart here — rather than to have the meringue in its whipped form and torched like what most other places would do, the meringue here is actually baked and placed atop the lime curd. This gives the Lime Meringue Tart a texture unlike others — it provides that soft, crumbly, melt-in-the-mouth texture almost akin to that of the sugar icing on gem biscuits , but less the sweetness; provides a bit of a neutral note against the tart lime curd that refreshes the taste buds. Despite all the wet elements sitting above it, the tart base was on-point; well-executed enough to support whatever that is above it without being all wet and soggy, yet also maintaining a texture that is easy to cut through without being cookie-like or crumbling into a mess. Pretty much something I am making a mental note to get the next time I am here again. It’s always a surprise whenever I hit the favourite place and a new pastry is being spotted at the counter — really liked how they have been consistent in whatever that they have served up over the years and the Lime Meringue Tart is yet another testament to that; a well-executed tart where they try to be a little different, yet keeping an eye on the necessary details that goes into making a good one. With all that effort and passion in their craft, I am definitely looking forward to seeing what other new items they may be coming up with — something which they seem to be doing a lot of in recent times!

It features five French reds that go by the glass, and an additional five that only retail by the bottle. Of course, they have another three reds from other countries, two whites and a rosé if you’re so inclined.⠀ ⠀ Sitting pretty in this glass is a pour of Clarendelle’s 2017 vintage Bordeaux. It’s a classic Bordeaux red blend, and its DNA is 67% merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and just one percent Cabernet Franc. It’s one hundred percent fabulous too, as its velvety smooth and heavy body emit aromas of vanilla, oak and leather. The flavours, however, are distinctly blackberry, plum & raisin, with fleeting hints of cinnamon in there.⠀ ⠀ As expected of a good Bordeaux blend, Clarendelle’s Bordeaux is charmingly complex with great fruit forward flavours and soft, rounded tannins. Tis a wonderful wine, and is best enjoyed slowly sipped between big bites of juicy entrecôte.

Yummy In The Tummy Tried the prawn risotto and oxtail lasagne. Prawn risotto: slightly wetter than usual risotto but it was the most amazing flavour ever. Could taste the prawn and herb flavour in every bite. Prawns were slightly over cooked, which was a bit disappointing for Jamie’s standard. But seriously, the risotto was so amazing I loved it more than the prawns. Oxtail lasagne: fresh tomato base, go in expecting less béchamel than a normal lasagne recipe and you won’t be disappointed. Oxtail would have been better if it was in chunks, unfortunately it was shredded and ended up smushy against the al dente lasagne sheets.

Creamy And Yummy In The Tummy My boyfriend ate the 150g burrata, I didn’t. He described it as “creamy and yummy, recommended”.

My Favourite Bread The garlic bread comes in four, but gobbled two before realising it’s photo-worthy too. Crusty on the outside but super fluffy on the inside, bread was totally not dry or tough. Garlic and herb flavour was amazing, and goes super well with the mozzarella inside it. Totally recommended!!!!!!

Mixed Grilled Kebab Platter Lamb chops, lamb kebab kofta, beef kebab and shish taouk, served with oriental Arabic rice and grilled vegetables. The beef and chicken were so-so. I've become a fan of kofta.

Grilled Chicken Pide Possibly the best pide I've tasted. Great bread and delicious chicken on the boat.
