Service was able to adjust the spiciness levels and make things less spicy for me! No need to fear third-degree chilli burns here. ๐
To my friendโs dismay, Tom Yum Soup should probably not be made non-spicy. They complained the lack of spiciness affected the balance. BUT, I really enjoyed salty-sour tang of the savoury soup. Here we have even more seafood, the flavourful lemon grass and ginger slices for balance.
Amazing service. The team took the initiative to ask if we wanted to top-up an extra prawn to fit our group size of 3pax.
These are thicccc. Golden brown, prawn cakes that are crunchy on the outside and juicy inside, that you can just eat them without any sauce. (8/10)
A creamy seafood mousse, served in a fresh coconut shell. On service, the fragrant combination of spices, and coconut milk was simply mouthwatering. It was delightful to dig into the pot of treasure and enjoying the otah mixed with all the yummy seafood (sotong, prawns and fish). Pity the portion was a bit small as the coconut isnโt as big as I would have liked. I am definitely getting my own otah instead of sharing in the future. A signature dish that shouldnโt be missed. FYI, do order white rice to mop up the rest of the sauce! (9/10)
Fat Yak (APA) - Light body, refreshing and easy to drink

Brother's Toffee Apple Cider - Tastes like soda! Would make a great drink for those who aren't used to the taste of beer.

TL;DR Oysters very yummy, omelette starchy and gooey. Not meant to be enjoyed separately. Definitely would not recommend it.
Oysters were fresh, big, and plump. Taken together with the omelette results in an interesting mix of textures that is starchy and gooey, yet springy from the oysters. Flavour-wise, I was unsure whether the omelette complemented the oysters, as the starch mutes the yummy oyster flavours.
After the oysters were all gone, we were left with a good amount of omelette. And I hate wasting food. Omelette by itself, I was largely disappointed. It did not have a good balance between the starch and the eggs, with way too much tapioca starch. This resulted in a very gooey, chewy texture, that was struggling to be crispy.
The omelette could have been more flavourful. Typically hawkers would lightly fry the oysters with the omelette, to give the omelette extra depth and complexity. Given the amount of starch in the omelette, and separate oysters, the folks could have added the briny oyster liquor to make the omelette more flavourful. Or, pork lard.
Their lively, slippery kway teow is infused with glorious wok hei and coated with the sweet black sauce and fish sauce mixture making it flavourfully yummy. Paired with the sweet-salty, crisp chye poh, this is definitely a healthier take on the lard bits for that crunch. To top that of, the generous helping of seared wagyu beef is extremely tender and juicy. This dish is excellent. A must-try in my books.
Skip the platter and just order the ๐ ๐ฟ. ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฒโ๐ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐. This was the highlight of the entire dish. Wonderful satay aroma with warm earthy fragrance of the spices and lemongrass. The Iberico pork was juicy, thick, and fatty. When dipped in the sweet Hainanese peanut and pineapple jam sauce, the coarsely-ground peanut fragments gave it extra texture. ๐ท๐
๐๐ต๐ถ๐น๐น๐ถ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฏ ๐ก๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐: Sweet and tangy chili sauce with tobiko and chunks of crab. Sadly the platter is served with tobiko instead of ikura. Once everything is mixed together, you donโt taste so much of the tobiko and I find that the sauce overpowers the sweetness of the crab.
๐ช๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐น๐ฒ๐๐ are your typical bar food. Nothing special, similar to McWings coated in a less intense Har Cheong Gai sauce. The curry aioli is tangy and the acids works well to counterpoint the oiliness.
Vegetarians might wanna consider the ๐ข๐บ๐ป๐ถ ๐๐๐บ๐ฝ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐. I couldnโt tell that they were vegetarian and itโs a fantastic rendition of your standard gyoza with ground pork! ๐ฅ๐ฅข
Light fluffy cake with pulut hitam (black glutinous rice) filling and topped with a layer of coconut cream. The coconut milk really goes together with the pulut hitam. Salty sweet and savoury ๐. Sadly, the roasted pulut hitam on the cake was hard and dry.. It would have been nice if it was crunchy.

And again, I'm not too fond of traditional cakes.. Or coconut lol

This is their most famous cake full of gula melaka sweetness. Slightly too sweet for me, an interesting layered sponge cake with a slightly gelatinous outer coating of gula melaka syrup.

Cake is really rich, and buttery however it also felt slightly dry and sandy(?). Although, I did like the modern take to this recipe with the glazed roasted apples.

One of SCC's signature dishes here at the Oval restaurant! 2 large, thick slices of fish, served with a side of salad, fries and tartar sauce.
-
The ๐ batter is good, tasty, light, crispy and not oily! Pieces are also firm, nicely done and lightly seasoned. You definitely get more fish than batter here, unlike most places (lol ๐). Fries are thick cup fries, not soggy but also not crispy, just fries.. Sadly, nothing too special about them.

But what I definitely love is the low price point for such a yummy plate of fish and chips!

These fries are amazing ๐. Perfectly crispy french fries that aren't dry even though they are thin and are free from burns. Definitely the best fries I have ever eaten - salty, crisp, light and not greasy. Add some nacho cheese and shredded parmesan. Simply glorious ๐ง๐.

I believe Don.ๆกฃ aren't selling the dragon fries anymore. We tried to get them but were told it has changed. Also, the price changed from $6->$8! So.. it's kinda pricey ๐.
