Steak Puns Are A Rare Medium Well Done Steakout has been around for ages, and they’ve had a change of chefs a year or two ago. However, the last time I paid a trip to Steakout was also a couple of years ago, which means that there’s now only one question that steaks out: has the quality dropped? Fortunately, the answer is a resounding no. This 250 gram slab of Angus ribeye straight from New Zealand costs $26.90 nett and is worth the moolah. Tender, succulent bovine is sublimely seasoned with salt & pepper, and served up with a redolent red wine sauce. That’s really all you need for a decent meal that’ll steak out in your memory. Of course, the sides are still rather disappointing, but bear in mind that you’re here to chow down on the cow, not on the cow’s food.

NZ Angus Ribeye - 250g ($26.90) This was slightly disappointing, especially considering the price. The steak while well-seasoned turned out to be a little dry, and slightly over-cooked for something that was supposed to be medium-rare. Quantity of the side dishes were not great, and other places like Astons etc. which have similar offerings at cheaper prices are more generous with their sides. If the steak itself was better, it might have been worth it. But unfortunately, this fell short of expectations. To be fair, their non-steak items like chicken are much cheaper and probably more value for money.

Mama Lucia’s ‘All in the Family’ Nasi Lemak Set Here I have Mama Lucia’s ‘All in the Family’ Nasi Lemak set from Third & Sixth Bistrobar, which consists of Nasi Lemak Basmati, Cucumbers, Egg, Sambal, Beef Rendang, Ikan Kuning, and Chicken Wing. This was a good plate of nasi lemak overall; from the fragrant & aromatic basmati rice, to the fork-tender & flavourful beef rendang, and the nicely marinated chicken wing that had a nostalgic taste (as described by my mom), and finally their sweet & spicy sambal. Mama Lucia’s All In The Family Nasi Lemak @thirdandsixthsg is a little bistrobar known for “Burgers, Booze, and Balls-Out Music”. They have recently launched a new concept and is none other than our local favourite, Nasi Lemak! Born out of longing for his mum in Malaysia, 𝐌𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐍𝐚𝐬𝐢 𝐋𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐤 is downright simple, honest and so hearty it reminds me of home. I tried 𝐌𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐈𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 set, which consists of 𝙉𝙖𝙨𝙞 𝙇𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙠 𝘽𝙖𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞, 𝘾𝙪𝙘𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙀𝙜𝙜, 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙡, 𝘽𝙚𝙚𝙛 𝙍𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙜, 𝙄𝙠𝙖𝙣 𝙆𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 and 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙣 𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙜. For me, the basics of a good nasi lemak is the fragrance and richness of the rice, complemented by shiok sambal chilli. For that, Mama Lucia’s Nasi Lemak definitely makes a good plate of nasi lemak with it’s rich fragrant, light and fluffy basmati rice, complemented by a sweet and spicy sambal. Moving on from the basics, their sides such as Beef Rendang, Ikan Kuning and Chicken Wing completed the experience. Definitely try their fork-tender and flavorful beef rendang! Overall, it’s nothing extravagant but a good plate of Nasi Lemak that’s down-to-earth and wallet-friendly. Crabmeat Pasta 👍🏻 Visited the dunearn outlet! Service staff were very polite and friendly :) Ordered the Tagliolini al Nero di Seppia con Salsa di Granchio ($19.90) which is a homemade squid-ink tagliolini with crabmeat in white wine sauce. Just a note that the picture above shows a half portion! (The chef helps to split the food into half, pretty thoughtful). Our bad for not reading the menu properly as we expected a creamy squid ink like pasta. However the taste is pretty decent! I enjoyed the garlicky taste accompanied by the abundant amount of crabmeat. One thing to point out would be that the squid ink taste isnt very prominent though. Would rate this a 8/10. Read my other reviews for the La Pizzaiola Speciale (pizza) and Creme Brûlée dessert!

La Pizzaiola Special This pizza contains roast beef, mozerella and rocket leaves. The meat is thinly sliced and tender, the portion of rocket leaves are generous. You will definitely fulfill your green veggie quota eating this. The only complain is I hardly taste the truffle oil and they can put more cheese. But it's a pretty good pizza to eat. Give it a try

Individual pieces of papers from the Yellow Pages were rolled up in a cone-liked shape, and then filled with Kacang Puteh. Raspberry Cream Cheese Cake ($6.50). An absolutely mediocre cake. Too sweet with a mousse like texture, and a thick and soggy base. To make things worse, the top layer was like a plastic film that came off with my first bite.

Crab Melt Sandwich Satisfying thick sandwich with crab cake, cheddar, onions, tomatoes, sriracha tartare and a side of fries which I had upgraded to truffle fries. The crab cake is flavourful with a good texture. This was probably one of the better crab cakes I ever had 》$20 + $2 Parmesan Truffle Fries

Homemade Rosti & Breakfast Sausage It's so sad to see them go 🥺 I'm already missing my weekend brunch at Riders Cafe. The homemade rösti & breakfast sausage is served with poached eggs, bacon, hollandaise and parmesan. The crispy fried potato shreds are well-seasoned and pairs well with their homemade juicy sausage 》$19

Smashed Avo & Eggs ($16) Avocado, Feta, Tomatoes, Poached Eggs, Sesame Seeds, Crushed Hazelnuts, Rustic Toast Quite an enjoyable avo toast! Generous servings of avo that wasn’t salty, the feta, tomatoes, sesame seeds and hazelnuts added additional flavour and texture. Toast was good, crunchy but not too dry.

Black Forest Cake Black Forest Cake (1/2 kg - $68) I felt that the cake was quite moist and not that strong cherry taste tbh. The cake melted quite fast and it's better to put inside the fridge after self collection or delivery.

🔥Pure Chocolate With An Ouch Price Tag After trying the baby Pure Chocolate ($11.90) some months back, I ordered the Upsized 500g Pure Chocolate Cake ($75). Unlike the baby version which is all mousse, this one has a layer of sponge cake as the base. Milk Chocolate level 50%+ kind of sweet. Yes it’s a good chocolate mousse cake but a little *ouch* on the price tag *Note: my taste palate leans towards dark bitter chocolate at a sweet spot of 65%-72% cocoa. So please use that as a gauge of my taste perspective.

On Today’s Poor Service Have been here a few times and I absolutely love the chocolate soufflé. Today’s visit was disappointing. Was there at about 2.55pm, it was a quiet afternoon. 8 out of the 15 seats were used by the staff to wrap hampers. Two tables (out of 3) were almost done with their food. Staff told us to come back later, didn’t bother to take down our numbers or suggest we wait outside. (So if we come back in 5 min and the newly vacated table is occupied it’s a too bad situation?). Asked for the menu, staff pointed at the board with no explanation (so do they not have a menu anymore or just no menus in the day?). Service staff said the chocolate soufflé was not available and I had to ask when would it be (7pm), then we asked if they had the chocolate lava cake to which she replied, “not available” in her couldn’t care less attitude. There was nary a smile nor hint of apology of this (or any of the staff’s) face so I can only conclude they weren’t interested in serving us today. It’s such a shame because I really love their sorbets and chocolate soufflé. :(

Iced Chai Latte $5.90++ for this large cup of chai latte. However it was too milky and a bit too sweet in my opinion. More chai pls :) Came on a weekday afternoon. This is a nice place to chill in the afternoon with a book or to have a nice long conversation with a friend.
