Headed by Chef Chris of Hay Gelato and now-defunct Brine, Baste is newly-opened restaurant situated along Ann Siang Road.

We had the Trout Mi-Cuit, Pumpkin and Shrimp Emulsion, Salted Egg (U.P. $19). Beautifully decorated, the semi-cooked trout is tender and melts away in your mouth ๐Ÿซถ We liked that the salted egg flavour is not overpowering and overall well-balanced ๐Ÿณ๐ŸŽƒ

My favourites are the trout mi-cout, truffled capellini, grilled sourdough and pistachio gelato. The achar fried rice deserves a special mention tooโ€ฆand Iโ€™m guilty of pairing this with the dip from the marinated beef which turned out not bad!

Probably my least favourite dish of the meal ๐Ÿซ  While the caviar chicken collagen mee sua felt homely, I would probably skip this in future visits.

Albeit not tasting the achar, the umami-filled fried rice is worth mention ๐Ÿ™Œ The shallots added a nice fragrance to this dish which felt v familiar (though we couldnโ€™t quite put our finger on it). If the grains were harder, this would be one of our top picks too ๐Ÿ’Ž
