I felt that the seabass was good enough and the pesto was not necessary, however my bf seemed to enjoy the pesto. I love the super crispy skin, and the flesh was soft and tender. Do look out for bones though. Not sure if I mentioned, but the service was lackluster, and food took long to arrive. We spent about 1.5hrs there and most of the time we were waiting for our food. The cafe was also quite cramped and one of the servers kept knocking into my bf. Unless they improve their operations, we are unlikely to return.
I was indeed still in a hangover state from the early morning's race, and this hearty lunch was just what I needed to replenish and repair my poor body 😂. The biscuits were a tad dry, and reminded me of scones. The beef patty was great though, very juicy and I believed was drenched in gravy (biscuits and gravy!). Such a sinful but delicious meal.
I had rather high hopes for this because I heard that the business was sold for a few million dollars? It should be pretty good if it is worth that much. The char siew was indeed really charred with an extremely blackened and sticky layer. Personally I prefer a less sweet and more bbq-tasting char siew so this wasn't quite to my liking. However, it wasn't too fatty and I liked that. The roast pork was a tad too salty and the skin was too hard. Although these 2 meats weren't fantastic, I did however enjoy their shrimp wanton noodles. We also noticed that many items (about 30%?) in the menu had the 'unavailable' label stuck over it which was really disappointing.
The best dish we ordered that night (we ordered 2 starters and 2 mains). I initially thought this was a main course, as it looked pretty huge in other IG accounts. But it was actually a lot smaller than I imagined. For this price, it was rather expensive, but I would still recommend it. It had a very strong charred flavour which I enjoyed very much, and the lemongrass flavoured sauce brought me back to Thailand where I had grilled seafood by the beach. The spicy slaw however, was something I could do without.
This time we had waffles with Horlicks Chocolate Chip and Hokey Pokey, which was vanilla with honeycomb chunks ($13). Hokey pokey was surprisingly not too sweet and cloying, and I liked the chunks of honeycomb in it. Horlicks chocolate chip was quite sweet, but reminded me of my younger days where I would drink holicks with condensed milk 😄.
I love their bouncy fishballs and large slices of fishcake. Simple yet delicious. This was the larger portion at $4. So glad to be living near this food paradise.
Pretty and delicious dish. Great toast, guacamole was delicious and super generous, and the dish was topped up with additional cubes of fresh avocado. Loved the beetroot cubes and sweet cherry tomatoes on top as well. One strange thing was that the guac was really salty towards the end, until my lips were smarting from salt overload. I think someone may have topped up an empty salt grinder with pepper (pic in background), because I added a lot of black pepper on my own and a salt and pepper mixture came out as a result.
The buns were crumbly and crisp, and the black pepper sauce was quite 'shiok' with just enough spice for me. I never expected black pepper to go so well with duck. I would totally order black pepper duck if there was such a dish. We were told that these buns had a 20 min wait, but they took about 15 mins to arrive and were pipping hot. The bun itself sans meat also had a slightly sweet taste. Highly recommend these buns!
I had the open-faced toast with chicken, avocado and cheddar cheese ($12++). I was so amused by the look of that round lump on my toast, but the lump revealed to be a half avocado 😂. The tender chicken thigh chunks were hidden under the avocado. I smashed the avocado and spread it over the toast, put the chicken and cheese over and everything was perfect 👌. The side salad was a little sad though and I stole some grilled tomatoes from the bf's plate.
Fresh basil leaves on the cheesy thin crust pizza, one cannot to wrong with this. This simple pizza was light on the palette, leaving us with enough stomach space for other dishes. This fared better than their pasta, and if I were to come back here, I would order their pizzas again.
Soy cappuccino. Very good and smooth. Not many cafes make a good soy based coffee, as soy protein tends to coagulate in coffee, or the soy milk used isn't very good with their roast. Fortunately this was real good.
Indeed living up to the name of the dish, the calamari was crispy and light, and the batter had a nice herbed/spiced flavour. The homemade spicy sauce was garlicky and very delicious, and I ended up dipping everything in it.
