My favourite roasted meats place. All of their meats are on-point and worth every buck. (Even though the prices are above average by the kg) but this plate was VERY reasonably priced.

In this picture is my favourite combo - charsiew and shaorou. The charsiew is glistening with the char sweet salty sauce, and charred to perfection. And tell me you can see the juiciness of the meats!! Really balanced proportion of lean meat and fats too.

The main appeal of the shaorou is the crackling skin — even my friend could hear how crispy it was when I was eating it! Same as the charsiew, the juice and the fat-to-meat proportion is perfect. Have no idea how they do it but it’s always so consistent. Must try.

And, the chilli is also v v fragrant and complements with the meats with its tangy and spicy flavors. Oh and the sauce on the rice is SUPER good w the rice too!!! Wished they gave me more sauce.

These delicate babies were full of flavors yet not coyingly sweet. We especially enjoyed the plain Swiss roll. The cream was incredibly smooth, soft and creamy. It was a right balance of sweetness and eggy taste. Could really taste that the cream was handmade and not just some store bought cream.

Earl grey Swiss roll was also delicious. The earl grey flavor permeated through the cream. It wasn’t just some artificial flavoring. I could really taste the authenticity of the earl grey, where it was brewed and infused into the cream.

Forgot to mention, the cake was soft and spongy and airy. Very very delicious and more importantly not overly sweet. A perfect afternoon treat!

Another plus point: the cafe is adorned with beautiful decorations and minimalist design. Very insta-worthy!

Hor fun was really packed with wokhey. Fish slices were really fresh and tender. I really appreciate how they weren’t stingy with their taughey - really adds a crunch to the horfun. Many San Lor Hor Fun I’ve tried are really salty and MSG-laden, where I’ll always have to drink a lot of water to wash the thirst down. But this horfun surprisingly did not induce the same effect even though it was super tasty.

YUMZ. One of the best san lor hor fun hands down!

A protein comes with 2 sides. I’ve chosen the fries and aglio olio. Pricing was incredibly cheap with 2 sides, dessert and an iced lemon tea.

Chicken was slightly overcooked, but bearable. Black pepper sauce is decent, nothing amazing. Fries were slightly soft and not crispy. Didn’t give a lot as well. But well they were still good bc what can go wrong with fries right!

Aglio olio was slightly dry (needs more olive oil!) but garlicky enough. Overall an affordable and decent meal.

Would come back because of the price and the portion of meat and pasta!

The smell of fresh pandan in the nasi lemak rice engulfed us first. Soft and pillowy rice never fails me. The drumstick was incredibly crispy and tender and juicy. The chilli was so fragrant and I love mixing it with the rice. The achar is one of the best I have - crunch cucumbers and pineapples and peanuty tangy sauce.

What a happy supper 😄

OHMY these were one of the BEST sotong I had in my life. They were ridiculously soft and fresh. I’ve never had sotongs this fresh!!!! And it was lathered with a generous amount of sambal which was super delicious and fragrant. It’s not overly salty or MSG-packed. Could really taste the effort into this handmade sambal paste. Lovely pairing with my 🍚!!

My visit at the one Michelin starred peranakan restaurant was pleasantly kickstarted by these fish crackers.

Crispy and tasty, yet not fishy or oily. Serves as a tasty snack with the sauce as well! Would totally buy a big pack of it as a daily snack hehe

Hands down my favourite piece at Genki. Prawn is humongous, fried to perfection. Biting into it just brings so much joy because it’s so crispy!!! And it’s really juicy and a good bite to the prawn.

My favourites have got to be the flower-shaped pandan cake and kueh kosui. Disclaimer, I’m no kueh fanatic but these kuehs got me coming back for more.

First, the kuehs here are a right amount of sweetness.

Second, the flower-shaped pandan cake was soft and fragrant. It was topped with gula melaka and coconut (hence the brown and white aesthetic rim above the cake!) which complements the pandan cake nicely. Oh boy these were so delicious fresh out of the oven!

Third, kueh kosui- never tried them until I chanced upon this pastry shop. They were really SOFT and FIRM at the same time, and really fragrant!!!!

Appreciate that traditions are still being kept blazing alive, and hope they remain to be. Highly recommend to all kueh and non-kueh lovers.

What a refreshing and affordable post-meal treat. Immensely enjoyed the huge red beans, really fresh, sweet and had a nice bite to them. The green bits tasted handmade (at least to me given its relatively paler green to other chendol places) and were not cloyingly sweet. Overall a decent bowl of chendol in SG, but nothing compares to the one I have in MY.

What a fun dessert! Had to drop this ball from a height onto the bowl to crack open this “piñata” dessert. While the richness of the blue colour of the icecream startled me initially, the ice cream was not as artificial tasting as I expected. It was reminiscent of earl grey and was surprisingly delicious! (Note: later found out that it was lavender custard! And realised that it does remind me of lavender... but perhaps more earl grey still) And it goes really well with the chocolate bites, and a little honeycomb. (Just a little will do — these honeycombs are really screaming diabetes!)

Definitely a good treat for some birthday celebrations or any sort of celebrations!!! They even offer you gloves to break open this piñata - how thoughtful.

The pancakes stole the show. It was undoubtedly the most beautiful piece of dish we had. They were really FLUFFY and SOFT. Drizzle some honey atop of these beauties, pair it with a berry or two with these soft pillows. The batter of the pancakes were also fragrant and not too floury - you can taste the hints of egg ones. Reminiscent of Japanese ones!!!

Would definitely recommend this stack for dessert.
