Cherry & Oak was a spot that I was really looking forward to visit especially after learning about how this establishment is opened by the same folks behind ASAP & Co., which is best known for their smoked meats which we absolutely loved during our previous visit there. While ASAP & Co. occupies a typical shophouse unit in the Kampong Glam neighbourhood, Cherry & Oak takes up a larger unit at Owen Road previously operated by Wo Peng Cantonese Cuisine, and carries a wider menu that features items fit for brunch such as a range of open-faced toasts served with smoked meat, sharing platters, pasta and sides ā they also do offer a small variety of desserts that are display in the display case at the counter, while beverages include tea, specialty coffee brewed using beans roasted by local micro-roasters Dutch Colony Coffee Co., and zero-alcohol wines.
The Rainbow Sausages from the āSmoked Sharing Platterā of the menu is one of the dishes that is often mentioned from Cherry & Oak. Whilst not being an item which we initially wanted to order, it was one that we eventually did considering how the portion does seem to be manageable to be shared between two pax. This item features handmade sausages made using growth hormone-free chicken with no additives, colouring, fillers or preservatives, while the sausages come in four different types ā Spinach, Original, Beetroot and Curry. All the sharing platters also comes with Nasi Lemak Bakar that is accompanied with egg, sambal, nuts and Ikan Bilis, whilst also coming with a Mango Slaw.
Of the four sausages, perhaps the most memorable one would be the Curry Sausage. The Curry Sausage seems to have been inspired by the Currywurst; there was an evident hint of curry powder in the sausage that carries a flavoural punch that sets it apart from the other sausages included in here. The original sausage is the one to go for to experience their housemade sausages in its truest form ā the sausages here do seem to be what they claim them to be; within the snappy casing is a sausage that comes with meat that carries a good bite. There is no artificial ābounceā here that suggests that these do not come with any fillers, whilst it is also noted that they do not come overly salty ā instead, the Original does come with an evident hint of pepper that attempts to tickle the taste buds. We were a little bummed that the Spinach and Beetroot one tastes rather similar however ā perhaps intended to be more of a play on colour rather than flavour. That being said, both sausages carries a rather strong hint of turmeric that seems to make them taste rather similar to that of satay. Dipping the sausages into the sauce provided, the sauce is actually BBQ sauce ā smoky and savoury whilst carrying a peppery touch. We were also especially impressed with the Nasi Lemak Bakar; whilst the rice felt a tad dry as compared to some other Nasi Lemak elsewhere, the basmati grains were distinguishable from one another and carried a slight coconut-y amidst the smoky flavours from being grilled within the banana leaf that it was wrapped into ā best to be had with the sweet sambal that comes with a good punch of spiciness that accompanies the Nasi Lemak Bakar for those who are able to tolerate moderate levels of spiciness.
ASAP & Co. had previously blew our minds with their Smok Norwegian Salmon and smoked beef brisket ā Cherry & Oak has brought it to yet another level with their housemade sausages and their Nasi Lemak Bakar. It is needless to say that they are pretty much the smoked meat specialists that they have come to be. It is indeed nice to see how ASAP & Co. has come this far in a short period of time, and has maintained their standards with the opening of Cherry & Oak. It is little wonder how Cherry & Oak is pretty much at its full capacity while we had made our walk-in visit on a weekend for dinner service ā hereās wishing the folks all the best in whatever that is to come!
Carrara Cafe, kinda low-key in the cafe scene but high-key famous for its supposedly award-winning gelato, actually offers pretty tasty grub as well.
We started off with one of their creations, the Premium Truffle Breakfast Pasta and had absolutely no regrets. The truffle-infused carbonara pasta was made al dente, complemented well by the juicy mushrooms, delightful poached egg and huge grilled sausage.
The highlight for me was the bacon, smoky and caramelised with a hint of sweetness, which blended amazingly with the savoury pasta.
Everyone posts about the dumplings but no one posts about this BEAST of a crepe cake and that is injustice. Thick layers of semi-solid condensed milk are dressed in a honeyed brown sugar streusel that tastes oddly similar to Biscoff, and the result is a decadent Russian classic that you absolutely must complete your meal with.
Chirashi Don ($21.80)
.
Excellent chirashi don @house_of_chirashi_sg at wallet friendly prices. This serving came with yellow tail, salmon, salmon belly, scallop, prawn and ikura amongst other ingredients. Each sashimi was sliced so thick itās no surprised that there were positively more fish than rice. A truly enjoyable dining experience. With a small seating of less than 10, reservations are a must.
Very satisfying. Coffee was sufficiently strong, just the way I like it
Danger Close @ Alexandra Village
Opens 12-3.30pm and 5-9pm daily
We ordered the Pesto Cream Dory Fish and it was such a colorful masterpiece. The ingredients used were fresh. The pesto wasnāt overbearing and allowed the flavor of the dory fish to shine. The dory fish was silky, soft and decadent. It had a crispy layer of fish skin, which gave a nice change in texture to the velvety fish. The mashed potato aināt your regular mashed potatoes. It was so smooth and buttery, and it absorbed all the essence of the dory fish and the pesto sauce. The dish was light on the palette yet so satisfactory.
We also ordered the Butter beer (Homemade butterscotch soda, $8) excluded from the 1-for-1 deal and it was totally worth it. The soda wasnāt as sweet, with a hint of bitterness and was fragrant. The foam was sweet, smooth and flavorful, which blended harmoniously with the soda. However, it gets sweeter as you drink because of the foam.
Overall, it was truly a unique experience with great ambience. Definitely coming back again!
This is a deal not to be missed especially if you stay nearby. It's only $7.50 after discount, and this isn't just another salad with cheese. It's Burrata from Cheese Artisan, which started off as a wholesale supplier of artisanal cheeses.
šø
Besides great artisanal cheeses and wine, they also serve a hot food menu that includes Japanese risotto with Unagi, Truffle Mac & Cheese, Chicken Skin Crisp (superb, must order lots of it!), and US Ribeye.

The Mozzarella Salad is also going for 50% off on Tuesdays (UP: $13).

Very value for money dish! A full soft shell crab topped on crab slaw sanga and a side of truffle fries. Loved how the sauces used in the crab slaw was light and didnāt overpower the natural sweetness of the crab meat, but wasnāt really a fan of the crunchy cubes of carrot tossed in - maybe it was for textures but weād prefer without. Our soft shell crab came packed with creamy roe (yay lucky us!) which made everything even better!
The macarons here are of unique flavours and arenāt too sweet too. Theyāre always good to have when needing a sweet treat after a long day š I got salted egg with curry, Thai tea, dark chocolate, pistachio, white chocolate lychee and salted caramel.
There could have been more flavour though, as all I could taste was the pepper and parsley I had added by myself. The egg was on point- the runny texture complemented the beef slices well! Would come back again to try the salmon bowl āŗļø #beefbowl #cheapandgood #aLOnCALpiggieonsolojiakventures #wheremyfoodiefwensat #sgfood #sgfoodie #igsg #exploresingapore #whati8today #burpple #burpplesg #burpplehawkerfare #tslmakan #stfoodtrending #sgeats #jiaklocal #angmofood
Impress your date at this hip, unfussy joint on Club Street that's great for inventive cooking and natural wines (they carry small quantities of ~200 types). Start with their House-baked Sourdough ($6) and house-cured Charcuterie ($16). Then, have the Cedar Jelly and Foie Gras Toast ($16) for a melt-in-your-mouth moment you won't forget. The menu changes frequently, but the Beef Tongue Sammy ($26) and the Endive ($21) ā a salad that is perfectly complemented by Kyoho grape and tete de moine cheese ā are mainstays you must not miss. If available, end your meal with the Birch Syrup Tart.

Tucked in an inconspicuous corner of the confusing Suntec City, Pasta Supremo serves a masterpiece called Supremo Porky Marinara ($14). Letās talk about the pasta sauce first. Itās a East-meet-West marinara sauce thatās sinfully and deliciously adorned with pork lards, giving a crackling and tasty bite. Yet not overly oily or heavy. The bacon and meatballs are in generous portions and are perfect with the topped parmesan cheese.
Pro tip: Burpple Beyond has 1 for 1 promotion for this. What a deal.
By the way, I was not exaggerating when I said this dish can save Suntec. My direction-challenged friend got lost in Suntec and swore she wouldnāt be back. But after this dish, she said she would be back. #truestory
