Carrara Cafe, kinda low-key in the cafe scene but high-key famous for its supposedly award-winning gelato, actually offers pretty tasty grub as well.
We started off with one of their creations, the Premium Truffle Breakfast Pasta and had absolutely no regrets. The truffle-infused carbonara pasta was made al dente, complemented well by the juicy mushrooms, delightful poached egg and huge grilled sausage.
The highlight for me was the bacon, smoky and caramelised with a hint of sweetness, which blended amazingly with the savoury pasta.
The Uni Ikura Angel Hair Pasta features a truffle-infused Japanese sea urchin sauce. Nestled on the pasta was a dollop of fresh uni and caviar, with supporting elements of salmon roe tumbling down the sides.

The sticky sauce was superb and it went really well with the ice cream and the cake. Absolutely stunning! Just get this and dont question.
P.S. make sure to share though as the sauce might be too sweet for 1 person to finish the dessert
I'd be honest and just say I forgot the real name of the dish because it's recommended by the waiter. I found the dish unique as they use angel hair pasta cooked with Chinese spices and ingredients with a soft boiled egg at the side. The dish is further made to stand out further by its lack of oiliness despite being fried and goes very well with the egg broken into the noodles. I felt the chef made excellent use of the ingredients and made the fusion effect very distinctive unlike some other dishes prepared for the sake of being called fusion.
And that ayam goreng berempah...sing your praises for you have been blessed with culinary perfection – the right balance of spices in the marinade, and the chicken leg remains juicy despite being put through high heat. The sambal — best shit ever, I scooped up all the leftover from everyone else's plate — flawlessly tingles with its spiciness before finishing beautifully with mild sweetness. Ok, that's all.
Toasted banana bread-a bit mushy, strong bamana taste, (just my preference) did not really go well with yoghurt frostinflg (15)
4 munchies: Baked to golden brown perfection with a nice crusty top, the pulling of the stringy cheddar revealed the well-cooked macaroni in cream sauce. Besides the bits of QQ crayfish in the pasta, the addition of shaved black truffles also enhanced the overall dish with its pleasant earthy, mushroomy taste. It was definitely the dish of the night for me!
This was a hosted meal by The Disgruntled Chef; many thanks to Burpple for the invitation! #Burpproved
From Akimitsu, a new Tendon specialty shop at Plaza Singapura with a long heritage from Japan brought in by Japan Food Holdings.
Overall the quality is decent but there's better Tendon specialty shops out there. The Akimitsu Signature Tendon comes with Tempura Prawn, Assorted Vegetables, White Fish, Seaweed and Egg; patrons can opt between Original and Spicy here. The Tempura pieces were generally light and crisp, but if one were to nitpick, the batter does seem to come off easily by itself and the pieces do feel a little limp at times. The spiciness of the spicy sauce here is rather mild as well; the rice could do with a bit more sauce too. Overall it's not too bad for a convenient Tendon fix if in the area, but there's other Tendon places that may be more queue-worthy around.
The Lu Rou features pork belly braised in housemade soy sauce. The flavourful meat was wonderfully tender and melted oh so slowly in my mouth.

Truly lived up to what I've heard of PBD's grilled cheese sandwich. A fantastic mix of cheese, gloriously kiap-ed between two slices of soft rye bread (I think), then toasted till it turns into this beautiful mess. My only wee peeve is that it ain't crisp and crusty on the outside: the perfect grilled cheese, pour moi, has a lovely charred and crisp exterior — even slightly burnt — and gooey insides. But that's just me; that aside this is fantastic.
Piled high with assorted tempura - sweet pumpkin (my favourite), crunchy French beans, mushroom, chicken, squid, crab stick, baby corn, and shrimps; Kohaku’s tendon is pretty substantial.
With a choice of their much talked-about spicy version, I had to bring my dad along to Tempura Kohaku for a taste test. He was quite impressed with the portion and the variety (but once again he felt that there was no kick). I, being my adventurous-self, had a bite of his and DIED. The familiar flavours of the sweet-savory tendon sauce were gone and in its place was just a fiery kick to my tastebuds. So unfortunately, it’s not my thing… I shall just stick to the usual one.But you can’t help comparing, if you have previously tried Ginza Itsuki.
Served in yet another beautiful porcelain bowl, I found that the main difference apart from the ingredients used was that the batter at Kohaku was slightly heavier. However, that doesn’t make the bowl any less satisfying and comforting.
Plentyfull is refined — the spacious bistro cum grocer is bright and tasteful, and the various seating areas (there's a private dining room, booth seats and a communal area) make this the perfect spot both for a business meeting over lunch or a reunion with your university mate. Foodwise, they offer build-your-own bowls, so let your creativity loose! Set A ($17) comes with one base, one protein and two sides while set B ($19) comes with three sides. We recommend the risoni, short cut pasta shaped like rice, as your base and the very tender, unbelievably delicious soy and ginger caramelised pork belly as your protein. For sides, the Caramelized Parsnip and Spiced Carrot and Maple and Bacon Brussel Sprouts are both very tasty, and portions are generous. There are only three sauces here, and they're all good, especially the addictively good chili jam that resembles Indonesian chili!
