Adore the salt baked chicked, salted egg prawn balls, homemade tofu. So much more!

Soft tender steamed fish! Our super value meal from Hee hee hee. Even though we didn’t order the premium fish but the farmed seabass for $10, the fish was still excellent! The lala could be better though! We will be back!

I bought so much because I finally made it to 2112 bakery! The green swiss roll (think it was vanilla) was fresh cream, incredibly light & refreshing. The egg tart filling was super eggy flavorful. The butter cookies topped with nutella were truly melt in the mouth, I don’t think they’ll even last a week!

As someone who doesn’t cook at all, I can’t imagine how the pretty young owner manages to bake such a large variety of goodies each day, and still have energy to man the store. This startup is a labor of love indeed. Still so many things I have to try…gonna get so fat but it will be worth it!

Lai Kee at Blk 183 Toa Payoh Central. Okayish, could be served hotter. The most impressive thing I’ve tried here is the fried beancurd skin. Tastes fresh and super crispy. Left an impression.

Gen Shu at Blk 74 TPY Lor 4 market. The most impressive was the lor mai kai, chockful of ingredients & super flavorful. Plus the porridge, it was light (typical of Cantonese dim sum porridge), but was really chockful of ingredients in every mouthful ( chicken, peanut, you name it. )

Handmade mee hoon kueh in pretty/ quirky bowls. Every diner at my table got a different bowl! There’s pork, prawn & clams and they also sell fried stuff. The mee hoon kuey is qq, the others liked their dry ones, I thought my soup one was nice & comforting but could have done with at least an egg for texture. This stall keeps changing hands, let’s hope they last!

The taste of my childhood is in these prawn noodles! I even clearly remember the face of the uncle cooking these noodles in the coffee shop under our HDB block decades ago, because I had it so often. So i was really surprised and thrilled to find the same taste when I moved into toa payoh years back. It’s something about the dark briny soup ( not the east coast sweet prawn soup kind) , something about the fried shallots. Try it & let me know if you had this in your youth too!
This lovely family run stall has moved around toa payoh a bit over the years but has been at blk 66 toa payoh lor 4 ( opposite tpy central) these few years.

Noticed this stall had a constant trickle of customers even at odd hours and decided to try the dumpling noodle. Surprised at how yummy the sauce was! No wonder the stall says to diet later ( see pic). The dumpling was different too… not the prawn kind I like nor the common meaty kind. I dismissed the taste at first as too mild but later found there are some interesting textures. No idea what’s in it besides carrots. Everyone I saw ordered the char siew. I think that seems like a solid bet 🤣.

Blk 184 kimly coffeeshop ( next to kfc)

Affordable for Novena anyway 😜. Within Koufu at novena square. Have not tried the beef but have enjoyed most of my meals here. This chicken chop was grilled w a crispy char skin, their spring chicken is yummy too. Ingredients are fresh and it’s an above average western food in hawker setting

Just had the most mouthwatering carrot cake!
Didn‘t realise carrot cake can have so much smoky wok hei! The sambal chilli also power & went wierdly well with the carrot cake. Had tried this stall before but they just moved into a bigger stall in same coffeeshop with expanded menu including herbal chicken, hokkien mee, wu xiang fried fritters…and new chef at helm. So glad i did! Fingers crossed it is consistent!

EAT BAR, Blk 116, tpy lor 1

I think it’s really bold for a lor mee stall to offer a money back guarantee. I saw many people eating the lor mee, and occasional queues. Hope nobody asks for their money back! 🤣🤣

Unusual to have cod and snapper. Loved the owner’s sense of drama by putting the whole snapper tail there! Heard they have fish eggs & want to go back to try that!
