Yum Yum Sweet Sauce $18++ Got the boneless fried chicken with sweet sauce. Previously tried the same with spicy sauce, so the sweet was not as good as there was no kick from the spice and was more one-dimensional. Still enjoyed it too, as the skin was crispy and sauce was still flavourful. The jajangmyeon was too soggy and did not impress, which was surprising.

Soft Tofu Soup Visiting Woorinara on a rainy day, we ordered this as we thought it would be great comfort food. It certainly didn disappoint, as it was served piping hot! The soup comes with a bowl of rice, which you should mix with some tofu and soup for the best flavour!! The soup is not very spicy (despite its colour) and in fact, we think there is a tinge of seafood flavour in the soup. Other than tofu, you can find quite a lot of shrimps in the dish, a generous serving of mushrooms, as well as a piece of half crab! The dish is great for sharing and at $13++, it is really value-for-money given its serving size.

Yum Yum Chicken (Sweet) Came back here for the yum yum chicken with the sweet sauce! This is the small serving, where you get around 8 pieces of chicken for $18++! I think this is just right for sharing amongst three people and if you have more, you may want to get another serving of chicken. Fried chicken was cooked well, as the insides were tender and legitly boneless, while the outside was really crispy even when coated in the sweet sauce! Would definitely come back for this everytime I visit Woorinara! On a side note, while the place was quite empty on a Saturday afternoon, it is really crowded at dinnertime and it may be best to make a reservation first!

Seafood Pancake [$16] Affordable and hidden traditional korean restaurant in a corner of Bukit Timah Shopping Centre! Tried the seafood instead of the kimchi pancake this time. Batter was good and pancake was crispy and savoury with its dipping sauce.

Spicy Sansho Mazesoba Reiwa Soba will probably appeal to those who prefer milder, cleaner and healthier tastebuds. For those who prefer a 'punchier' flavour, you should check out their spicy sancho mazesoba. Their handmade soba is topped with spicy minced pork, alfafa sprouts, leek, nori, tenkatsu and Japanese Sansho pepper. It is then paired with a sweet, tangy and savoury sansho pepper sauce. There is a nice hint of tongue numbing mala flavours but overall the dish is really well balanced with a harmonious bland of savoury and refreshing flavours. I think Reiwa Soba willl appeal to those who prefer their food more 'bland', mild and 'healthier' tasting. If I had to describe their food, it's akin to classical music. Timeless yet soothing and pleasing to the palate.

Pork Soba ($13+) Reiwa Soba's signature dish is their pork Soba. Fresh handmade buckwheat soba is topped with organic Spanish white pork and served with their signature dipping sauce which comprises a blend of chilli oil, bone broth, kombu seaweed and fish stock with a dash of honey. We really liked the buckwheat soba. Freshly made, it has a subtle earthy and nutty flavour and packed a good chewy bite. It can taste a little bland on its own but tastes great paired with Reiwa Soba's signature dipping sauce. The Spanish white pork though was bland and tough. I like the soba but am not a fan of the pork!

Maguro Tatsutaage I have heard a lot about Reiwa Soba Kappo since they first started out as a hawker stall in the Jalan Besar area just before or during the Covid outbreak but never got a chance to check their handmade soba out until recently. For starters, we had their maguro tatsutaage or deep fried tuna. The marinated tuna chunks are lightly coated with rice flour, deep fried, topped with grated daikon and served in a tangy ponzu sauce. We loved the tender marinated tuna chunks. They were sweet and juicy and paired really well with the grated daikon and tangy ponzu sauce. It's great as a starter or paired with their buckwheat soba!

Hot Plate Squid I usually go for their hot plate meats or the yukgaejjang at Kim Dae Mun but Miss K was craving for sotong so bopian 😝😝😝 We like that their squid are thick cut so there is a nice bite to each squid ring. It is also perfectly executed as the squid was tender yet chewy. The sauce was definitely more spicy than the sauce used for their hot plate chicken and pork but paired really well with the squid. Its a tad more expensive than their meat options but a good alternative if you are looking for something different!

Japchae Glass Noodle A well-made Japchae should have a balanced sweet and savoury flavour with slices of meat, crunchy vegetables and a chewy sweet potato noodle texture. The ones here were not too bad, and the texture of the noodles was on point except the sauce is a little too sweet to my liking 》$6.50

Fried Dumplings Juicy mandu with a healthy amount of pork and vegetables inside with a not-too-thick and nice crispy bite on the skin 》$4

Coklat Choco Martabak Coklat Choco Martabak (2 Pax for $7.20) It's a popular selling item for their cafe if you noticed some people did ordered after they ate finish for their dry noodle or rice meal. Need to wait for a while around 15 to 20 mins while they made it on spot. best selling flavour for martabak are campur ($8.50) and ovoPOP ($10.90). it was really quite extreme sweet taste for me especially they put a lot of Chocolate Rice and high recommended for sharing with friends if wanted to order

Bakmie Ayam Bakmie Ayam ($6.90) I never tried Jtown but people talked about it a lot of times on the social media. But I decided to order non-spicy dry noodle but turned out braised mushroom & shredded chicken with sweet sauce. The noodle was dent, chewy and qq texture for my opinion but then it's served with soup.

Yummy! Bakmie ayam Cabe Ijo @ $6.90 Green chilli chicken noodle, comes with two chillis on the legend on the menu. But it tastes nothing close to the dish with three chilis. The spiciness is quite mild but the dish is still great! Noodles are handmade and super nicely done and the black sauce (need to ownself add) elevates the dish entirely. While the other dish we had comes with fried chickcen chunks, this is a bit more like minced meat.

PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE Rice is soft, fluffy & infused with pineapple taste; opted for chicken which came with generous portion of tender chicken fillet; came with raisins & meat floss..

HOMEMADE THAI PRAWN CAKE Prawn patty is firm, moist & lightly seasoned; topped with 3 small shrimps & thinly breaded then deep-fried till crisp; paired well with the sweet Thai chilli sauce at the side..

THAI MANGO SALAD Green mango tossed with peanuts, crispy battered ikan bilis, onions & chilli; not spicy but taste 1-dimensional towards sweet side & lack of shrimp taste..

Great service & food Had the Pork Udon with egg and rice with assorted tempura (Kakiage & Snow cream croquette). I like that they provide a few free condiments such as tempura bits & seaweed which you can add to your udon or rice like me to further enhance the meal. Being in a town area, the food here is affordable which explain the queue outside.

Black Garlic Tonkotsu Udon ($12.80) previously I didn't able to try it out but in ramen version. But it's much better than previous trip that I have tried it out. But I felt that their udon was quite hard and not that chewy texture in the past that they used have.

tamoya udon curry udon with beef - my go-to order! always love curry udon because i find that udon noodles always go so well with the slightly sweet/spicy japanese curry, and the beef slices are also such a great pairing. 8/10

Ebi and vegetable tempura with cold udon The udon was delicious! Chewy with a firm to hard texture, but the tempura was boring

Kakiage Udon | $10.80 Udon is springy but broth doesn’t have much flavour. The kakiage is mostly made out of onions 🧅 so it’s like eating onion rings especially when there’s no dipping sauce or seasoning powder. The place was packed though, and we had to wait in line for a disappointing dinner. Even MOS burger’s kakiage burger did better at a fraction of the price.

Pocket-friendly Jap Meal 🤩 Located at Takashimaya’s foodhall basement. There are other Japanese eateries around the corner too! Nothing much to rave about but you can simply satisfy your Japanese food craving fix over here at low damage. Food ordered: 1) Kitsune Udon ($7.80) 2) Kakiage Don ($10.80)

Tha Siam Fried Rice A hidden eatery in a forgotten mall and we're surprised by the food's standards. This was quite good, given my high expectations. A tad too spicy.

Hidden Gem A little hidden gem at Orchard Plaza. This seafood Pad mama (yes Thai version of Maggi Goreng) was very savoury and I polished the plate in no time. Hubby liked the Siam fried rice which he found spicy but shiok. We went for the chicken wings as recommended and it did not disappoint. Packed for a weekday lunch, top up 1 buck for Thai milk tea. The Thai milk tea was a little too sweet for me but otherwise, I found my meal to be enjoyable.

Raclette Cheese Hamburg Teishoku $17.8++ Ordered a teishoku meal, which came with the signature beef hamburg patty on a hot plate, topped with raclette cheese, a bowl of rice, tamago soup, pickles and salad, and paid an additional $7 for an extra beef patty. Firstly, the japanese rice was warm, fragrant and plump! The soup was egg drop soup containing some egg and sesame seeds, which was salty and a good complement. The pickles and salad were alright, definitely just a complement to the star of the show, that was the hamburg! The hamburg was super soft, juicy and flavourful, and thanks to the hot plate, the crust was charred, giving it additional flavour and crispiness. The raclette cheese was a perfect top up for the hamburg as the creamy and savory cheese was a perfect complement with the hamburg.

Signature Tsukimi Hamburg Don Crowned with grated radish and a single bright orange Japanese yolk, the Signature Tsukimi Hamburg Don ($12.80) was surprisingly satisfying. The hamburg steak patty was moist, succulent and not too cloying or “meaty”. Hand-shaped with a blend of US beef, pork and Miyazaki Wagyu beef cuts; the patty was also savoury and well-marinated. Texture-wise, it was decently packed, not overly soft or dense. What’s more, the piping hot bowl of fluffy, comforting Japanese Hitomebore rice from Tohoku was yummy and the accompanying house-made bonito-kombu sauce was also rather complementary, tying everything together!

Tsukimi Hamburg Don Finally found a place that specialises with hamburg steak. They follows the golden ratio of US beef, pork and Miyazaki Wagyu beef cuts; with the ingredients air-flown from Japan. Their Tsukimi Hamburg Don is the most simplest yet the signature item here. Comes with rice, raw egg, and soy sauce. I really enjoy the texture of the hamburg, soft and juicy. Remember to pour in the sauce that combines of bonita and kombu. The egg yolk on the top signifies their name, which mean “viewing the moon”. Break it and let it flood around the hamburg. Lastly, the meal also accompanied with a bowl of tamago soup as well.
