White chrysanthemum !
Delicious pastries!
A relatively new kid in town dishing out 3 flavours of soft serve, ie matcha, hojicha and milk. The soft serve comes in two sizes, the regular cup will cost RM 9.90 net and the mini cup will cost RM 6.90 net. The matcha soft serve is decent but not to my liking as I find it a tad too milky and I prefer my matcha ice cream to have a stronger / bitter after taste but nonetheless, enjoyable. A more delightful flavour will be the Hojicha soft serve! It's still quite uncommon to see any hojicha related food in Malaysia so I'm definitely delighted to try this out. The hojicha isn't very strong but it's a lovely twist to the usual matcha flavour found in most of the cafes in Klang Valley. So hop over to PS Tokyo to try their soft serves and if you check in via FB, you will get mini soft serve on the house!
A hidden gem at Menara Manulife which opened their door barely 3 weeks ago. It has a breakfast & lunch menu where the breakfast menu has items which are lighter on the palate and tummy whereas the lunch menu consists of burgers, pastas and what not. On the table is Matcha Latte (RM 12), Beef & Lamb Meatballs Pasta (RM 29) and Scrambled egg, roasted pumpkin, feta cheese on toasts (RM 20). When the food was served, we were delighted at the sight of such pretty plates used and when we tasted the food, sure enough it did not disappoint. The scrambled egg is a nice change to the usual scrambled egg which is loaded with cream and milk, Delirium's version depicts a healthier scrambled egg which is suitable for ladies/guys who are watching their diets. The meatballs pasta is the right balance of sourness in the tomatoes used and the meatballs are to die for. Their me yes aren't a your typical cafe menu as they focus more on healthier version and it will be a great place even for vegetarians as quite a number of their items are actually meatless!
Another new kid joining the Shibuya Toast hype in Klang Valley! I have my eyes fixed on Matcha Toast (RM 16) once I saw it on the menu as anything matcha is my dead spot. The toast is crispy on the outside, soft & fluffy on the inside which imo, tastes as good on its own even without the cream & ice cream. However, one minor let down is the ice cream itself as it has started to melt right after it was served and by the time I was done with feeding my phone, the scoop of ice cream seated on top of the toast has melted by half. Also, the ice cream doesn't have a strong green tea after taste as its too milky for my liking. The owner has also recognized the problem with the melting ice cream and they are trying to source for another supplier so hopefully things will change for the better! Try it out guys, u won't regret for sure!
Another delivery of which aims to bring delicious food that are both hearty and healthy so I decided to go for the Warm Tucker (RM 24.90 before GST) which has Desiree potato, roasted pumpkin, zucchini, eggplant, broccoli, kidney beans, onions, walnuts, cheddar cheese, cachaca chicken and pair with honey mustard sauce. The salad was not exactly warm when it reached my door step but it might be due to time needed to deliver the salad which has resulted it to be somewhat cold. The salad was slightly on the salty side maybe due to all the grilled vegetables and cheese. Nonetheless, it's still a good option if you desire a wholesome meal without stepping out of your door step but remember to place the order by 9am on the same day.
Chicken Alfredo Pasta (RM 28.90), croissant (RM 4.90), Shashuka (RM 22), Very Berry Acai (RM 17.90). Their brunch items lean towards sandwiches and pies instead of the usual staples but sadly, it's really average that it didn't impress me much. The chicken Alfredo pasta is hovering the just-ok border as the chicken is a little too tough plus the price tag seems to be a little on the high side? Shashukha gets a little too spicy towards the end that I couldn't finish it and the croissant is too dense, I prefer my croissant to be light and fluffy. The Very Berry Acai is the only item that I think it's worth the money because not many cafes in Malaysia actually serve this superfood. So I was basically screaming silently but de lightly when I saw it on the menu.
Heard and read so many mixed reviews (reviews which are of two extreme ends) about this place so finally we gave it a try. We ordered the Butcher's Breakfast (RM 29) and Wheatgrass Yoghurt (RM 5). The Butcher's Breakfast has the usual suspects like eggs, sausages, home made chutney, hash browns etc but the portion is a tad small given the price tag. The playing reminds me of YBR but YBR has a slight advantage for the portion served eventhough their Big Breakfast costs more than RM 30. However, the star is the Wheatgrass Yoghurt! The sweetness is just nice with a slight hint of pandan flavour which is refreshing to cleanse the palate after a hearty brunch. The service though needs significant improvement as the kitchen was jammed up and we waited for more than 30 mins for this to be served to us despite numerous reminders were given. The lady was kind enough to ask us whether we need any other orders (coffee, chocolate, desserts etc) which will be on the house as they were very apologetic on the jammed up orders.
I was craving for waffle and a cuppa but didn't wanna succumb to the usual suspect so the bf suggested Brewmen and well, I'm glad now that he has brought me here because the smor-ffle was so delish! It's a combination of 4 pieces of crispy waffles, heated marshmallow and two scoops of ice cream. I scoffed that the sight of the marsh mallow (not a big fan) but wow, I was delighted when I had it with the waffle cos it just melted in my mouth. However, service was a bit of a let down maybe due to the crowd but this won't hinder me from going back for more smor-ffle!
What's better than having a bowl of the famous prawn mee at Yong Len before heading to work with a happy tummy? This version of prawn mee comes with taugeh, kangkung, pork slices, mini prawns and topped with fried shallots, with a spoonful of sambal set aside for diners who want to have an extra kick or level up the spiciness. I especially like the soup as it's spicy enough (some of the prawn mee out there has no kick at all even when sambal is included) and has a balance of saltiness, sweetness and spiciness. If you are a working adult at one of the offices nearby, why not head down to YL to grab a bowl of this soupy goodness at RM 5.30 (small).
Hire Katsu Zen (RM 34 excluding service charge), which is breaded pork fillet cutlet set comes with refillable rice & cabbage, pickled vegetables, pork miso soup and tofu. I will pick pork fillet over pork loin as it contains very very minimal fats which is more suitable more ladies and the quality of the pork fillet is comparable to Ma Maison given that they are the leading supplier is the industry of Tonkatsu in Klang Valley. Since the quality of the pork fillet is comparable, it boils down to the sides as well as service to determine which is my favourite and my verdict goes to Ma Maison. Reason being, I'm slightly miffed that Wa Kitchen does not provide the option between brown rice and white rice (hello, abit more health conscious) and their pickled vegetables are a tad too spicy for my palate. Also, the waiter who served us was kind of blur as he did not even know does WA have the option of brown or white rice, and he mixed up our order of hot green tea as iced green tea. For an unknown reason, their brown rice tea tastes more like Chinese tea than the proper brown rice tea hmm. I'll still stick to Ma Maison but Wa Kitchen could be a good alternative for those who is in KL and crave for tonkatsu.
