It was salty!

Ordinarily average.

It’s the first time I heard anyone order Rare.

But it seems Pelican has had a history of overcooking and it came out Medium Rare anyway.

Smearing anchovy butter made for a unique steak experience. There is such a distinct punch of pungent fishy smells that wafts in a bite.
Pretty acquired taste really. Not a fan.

That the frites were soggy = unmemorable.

Lacey puff pastry crisping and flaking. The more buttery the better tasting but I was glad this one wasn’t so or the bĂ©chamel would altogether make this too surfeiting. The chewy pull of dough on the bottom layers perfectly soak up the buttery chowder too 😋 |
And that FISH!! was this perfect balance between a smokey caramel finish from a perfect sear and fresh ocean brine. 😍🐟 Morels of mushroom bursting forth nutty umami were lip-smacking too

10/10 would come back
#uncoverthatfish #findJonah 😂😂 no it’s just a really good snapper filet firm to the bite. #chewonit

Pretty pricey for hawker food but they did come with nice cuts of tender mutton protein!

Thought the soup was nicely sweet with the Angelica and adequately refreshing with the pungent gingers.

For a sum of its counterpart, this is pretty good value.

But it’s a mix of more misses than hits.

Hits:
The plum syrup watermelon :) sweetly refreshing. Can get cloyingly sweet however so have it between bites of the more hearty and savoury

The XO sambal was pretty piquant. Although lacking a punch.

Tender fresh chicken is as usual, averagely tasting.

My dinner date did think the salted egg and egg sauce chicken was pretty okay. I thought the fried popcorn chicken was cold, hard and not crispy.. having salted egg and egg sauce is also.. kinda a lumpy weird. Cannot understand haha.

Misses:
The hokkien Mee was.. lacklustre and one dimensionally PRAWNY BRINY. On an intense level.. no wok hei, no aroma. Just prawny briny :/

Really briny

The carrot cake too just a flat tasting bland cake of flour/kueh

Pretty much average tasting popiah and kimchi slaw. Kimchi was not so accented.

Went on a pretty unfortunate day where we only had the option of a beef rice bowl..

It sure looks pretty.

Thought the cardamom grains were heavily reminiscent of the familiar briyani rice haha.

The beef was very salty.

While the tomato salsa was honestly spoilt :(

I only actually liked the cutely shaped pappadum.

Kinda had a hardtack exterior and a dense doughy pancake texture/taste on the inside.

Good for first bite but it started getting heavy with a mild bitter floury flavour.

Definitely have it with a sweet spread. Or as some have recommended, wait for the star waffle masters who’d do it stellarly.

They used basmati rice which makes for such a light and fluffy staple to tuck in to.

The ikan bills were also flaking crispy while the sambal was sticky and sweet. Could have preferred not having all that many seeds in the sambal blend or maybe it could be spicier and more piquant.

But I overall enjoyed it. The rice was an okay lemak, haha this definitely helped.

Begedil ($1.20) was also a potato cake that definitely had some curry seasoning involved too. Interestingly different from what we usually have.

The drawback however is that the chicken wing was pretty cold and nothing memorable.. I thought the juicy chicken cutlet might just have been more tasty with the heavy handed garlic marinate

Go for the cutlet!

My first seeing these hot coffee lait drinks served in these tall glasses.

Wouldn’t recommend ordering it as an additional side.

The foam was distinctly large and porous, while the coffee wasn’t aromatic at all. Mainly a bitter hit.

The sourdough bread was a very light counterpart to the burger but overall felt it crumbles and breaks apart too simply. Not such a great choice to hold the burger together.

I love the layer of balsamic glaze however. It was rich, sweet, sour, sticky that I think was what held the entire burger together.

The lone layer of Parma ham sure helped add a foil of a different scent to the otherwise bland patty. While the Parmesan cheese nicely added a hit of savoury â˜șïžđŸ‘đŸ»

Thick coating of sour cream that stood out heavily.

Glad for some help with balancing the palate from the veggies. But overall felt the flavours quite one-dimensional. Mainly tasting the sour cream.

Don’t think the patty stood out at all either.

Multigrain Bread however was pretty fragrant :)

Glad they coined in Asian dressing rather than simply Asian salad cos primitive Asians don’t take salads!

It was a savoury gingery, sesame creamy base.

Garden greens were delightfully crisp and sweet.
