I love how effortless this cafe is. It's like having a cup of coffee at your neighbours house. #workfromcafe #feelsyoungwithuniundergraduatesbesideme #lunch #coffee #cafehopping

Filial piety is bringing back a piece of Vietnam back home and share it with your old folks #foodie #vietnam #banhmi #baguette

Com Tam Broken Rice with grilled pork is a classic street food here in Saigon. Was pretty adamant about going for a famous store, but was afraid that I'll get lost in a non tourist-friendly city, so decided to heed the advice of the hotel receptionist to try this stall 3 mins away from my hotel. Pork was a bit tough for me, rice was good tho but ain't too sure if this is the best #supper #saigon #vietnam #vietnam2014 #danielinhochiminh #eatdieme #eatlikealocal

Mai Home Saigon Culinary Art Centre - Lesson began with a tour of Ben Thanh wet market, the biggest wet market in Saigon District 1 but very touristy and hence a tourist trap. But the food section is as amazing as any wet market in Southeast Asia with a beautiful display of fresh seafood, meat and vegetables. Even saw 2 rats, not for sale, but scurrying down the drains. That's something you definitely won't see in Singapore.
Whipped up a 4 course Vietnamese meal of Beef Pho, Grilled Fish in banana leaf, stew chicken in ginger (which is a salty version of 宫保鸡丁)and Vietnamese Salad Roll. I didn't know broth of pho is made up of so many spices ( cardamom, star anise, clove, coriander leaves and cinnamon), and boiled with beef bone, grilled onion, ginger and shallot. Broth is only ready after 6 hours. So much effort for a seeming simple dish!

Nuff said. Hope you enjoyed your dinner :) #vietnamese #dinner #danielinhochiminh #saigon #vietnam #day2 #pho #saladroll

Breakfast was a traditional Vietnamese street food called Xoi, glutinous rice with pork and fried shallots. This is, according to the guide, Is Saigon's second most popular breakfast after baguette. Glutinous rice and toppings are alright, but was blown away by the Char Siew. We hardly have this fatty Char Siew in Singapore cos we are too health conscious and goody two shoes. Love!

Finally had Pho on my second day in #vietnam #saigon. This wasn't part of the original itinerary but I guess that's the perk of a private tour :) wanted to try this famous Pho restaurant in HCMC Pho Le but it's so far away from my hotel that a trip there is impossible without a cab/bike. Guess it was my lucky day :) My eyes lit up when I saw the huge mountain of bean sprouts and basil leaves (love!). I haven't tried enough Pho to know what's good or average, but I think this should be a good bowl of Pho. The beef is so soft and goes so well with the flavourful broth. Of course you gotta add some basil leaves to complete it

I didn't have a good start to my Vietnam trip after being ripped off by that taxi driver (May you burn in hell!), my tour guides were in rude shock when they found our I paid 45sgd, leant my lesson to go for 2 taxi reliable companies. Am now suffering from street food coma after my 9-hr street food bike tour. Food has been amazing, but I equally enjoyed sitting at the back of the bike and soaking in the moments (and smog), seeing the city go by right before my eye and the local way of life. I think I've leant more about Vietnam through the tour guides themselves - they earn a miserable 200usd but it's considered good money in Vietnam already. My tour guide even holds 2 jobs (the other being a hotel receptionist) just to support his family. And they can buy a motorbike with just 850usd, I don't think we can even own a pipe exhaust at this cost back home #danielinhochiminhcity #vietnam2014 #vietnam #day1 #street #food #biketour

Suffering from street food coma now, 11pm Vietnam time, after my 9-hr food tour on the bike. Besides the amazing street cheap, I really enjoyed soaking in all the moments at the back of the bike, seeing the city go by and the local way of life. Have learnt a lot more about Vietnam through the tour guides themselves- they earn a miserable 200usd per month but to them it's good money because cost of living ain't as high as Singapore. And they can just buy a motorbike at 850usd.
