Didn’t have time to meal prep for the week so I thought it was the perfect time to try Yummy Bros. Ordered on a Wednesday night for Monday morning delivery and the whole customer service experience was amazing even before I placed my order all the way till delivery and after!
I chose a Monday morning delivery for 6 chilled meals. The delivery time slot was slated for 10am-1pm but the polite delivery rider arrived at 10.15am. Collection was fuss-free and super convenient.
My first order of business was picking which of my 6 meals to try first. I settled on the Yummy Beef and left it in the fridge compartment to thaw.
To be honest, I wouldn’t have ordered the Yummy Beef but I saw lots of good reviews about it and I wanted to find out why it was their best seller. I think I understand why now. As I was reheating the meal, a delectable herby aroma permeated the whole pantry and office area. There were strong rosemary scents, and the smell of the meal had me salivating already. I couldn’t wait to dig in.
For a frozen meal, I didn’t have high expectations, but Yummy Bros would’ve smashed them anyway. The beef was super tender and easy to chew, with the exception of a single piece. The gravy was also really fragrant and not too salty. I ladled the gravy all over my brown rice and broccoli - making sure I used every last drop of it! I am a fan of brown rice, and I loved the slightly tougher texture of it as compared to white rice. It was perfectly cooked in my opinion, but some people may find it too hard. The broccoli wasn’t seasoned, but it went great with the gravy. Wish there was more vegetable provided. Although you can actually choose to add more at extra cost, I didn’t think it was worth shelling out another 50 cents for 50g of veg.
Overall, Yummy Bros is still likely the most affordable pre-workout/meal prep service out there. I might not order the Yummy Beef again simply because I prefer other kinds of meats, but I would probably order from Yummy Bros again and the beef certainly is yummy!
Trying Yummybros meal prep for the first time with their newly launched Kopi Chicken!
Opted for the meals to be delivered frozen so that I could store them to eat over the week. For this particular meal, I ordered Kopi Chicken (Large,200g, +$1.50), Brown and Red Rice Mix (Standard, 200g) and Broccoli (50g) - which cost $9.00 in total.
I started thawing out the meal in the fridge from 9am and placed the meal in the microwave to be reheated for 4 minutes at 11am. The fragrance from the coffee was very pleasant, and permeated the whole pantry. It was quite subtle, and I’m pretty sure any coffee lovers would appreciate it.
The coffee chicken was very tender, juicy, and bursting with flavour - a very pleasant coffee taste came through without leaving any bitter aftertaste! There’s apparently the same amount of caffeine in this as a regular cup of kopi gao, but maybe I’m a little immune to caffeine and it didn’t have such a drastic effect on me. I loved the gravy and drizzled whatever was left of it on the rice. I also really liked the rice mix, which had a little bit of bite and nuttiness to it, but if you’re not used to eating brown rice, it might feel hard and undercooked. Love that this option is available though - it helps keep me satiated for longer as compared to white rice! The veggies were a bit of a disappointment though, 50g hardly seems enough for a standard portion, and there aren’t any other green veg choices on their menu. Would love for more veg to be provided, and more veg choices to be offered, but at the moment, it’ll do.
You get a nice surprise when you polish off your meal at the bottom of your container too. Nice touch from the thoughtful guys behind Yummybros :)
In all, this is a fantastic meal prep service, and probably one of the cheapest options available at the moment. Their customer service is fantastic, delivery is fuss-free, and the meals are (as their name suggests) super yummy! If you’re a gym buff, or someone counting calories and watching their diet, this is a meal prep service for you to consider for sure!
