Vegetarian fried UFO.
Crispy outside, generous amount of filling inside.
Savoury texture every bite.
Highly recommended!

The food was really spicy even though I asked for the lowest level of spiciness... also forgot to take a photo of the dead cockroach in a corner beside the cashier...

Find shelter and warmth on rainy days at this Chinese joint on Middle Road and indulge in a vegetarian steamboat with your closest pals. Burppler Raine Liu recommends the Sausage ($3.90) and Vegetarian Lamb Meat ($3.90), where the mock meats soak up the flavourful Laksa and Herbal soup bases. You could also spice things up with their numbingly aromatic Mala Yong Tau Foo ($20.90) that is wok-hei heaven.

Another spot for good vegetarian ma la, this favourable Bugis joint doles out wok hei-laden sharing portions at $20.90 for two. We like that its location is super easy to get to, which makes it perfect for after-work dinners or mid-day ma la cravings. It also doesn't hurt that their piquant mala sauce coats the fresh, crunchy ingredients like cabbage and lotus root with just the right balance of heat!

Vegetarian Steamboat (for 2 pax & above) - I’ve gotten the Laksa & Herbal soup base, really big big ❤️ for the laksa base. Ingredients for $3.90 per plate, go for the sausage and vegetarian lamb meat.

Have always been passing by Xing Hua but never got to try. Came by specially to get their vegetarian mlxg and only realised then the selection was originally for yong tau foo (smart to add on mala to that)! It’s not the cheapest around though, the two of us paid about $20.90 inclusive of a $3 charge for the mlxg base that was of a default level of spice. Can’t say it tastes the same as the non-veg ones, but it was not bad. We liked that the stir fry was fragrant, dry and not that oily, though I’d personally prefer just a little more salt. They also have a huge range of vegetarian dishes to choose from - think steamboat, dim sum, stir fry, etc.
