Visited a few days ago to bring my relatives from Malaysia! However, sad to say, the standard has dropped compared to a couple of years ago. Used to be a family favorite and we would visit every other week when I was younger at the old shophouse-style shop.
Rice: Good, very fragrant and flavorful compared to many other stores!
Sauce: Nice, goes well with rice
Chicken: Didn’t make the cut for us as the meat wasn’t that tender or flavorful.
Kangkong: Too salty, had to wash the sauce off in my soup. If the salty taste was reduced, would have been a good dish.
Roast pork: Fail… skin is not crispy AT ALL, and looks like a factory made dish?!
Overall, a disappointing experience from an old regular. Don’t think I will be revisiting if standard doesn’t improve…
My rating: 2/5 ⭐️
Founded by Wee Toon Ouut in 1987, this beloved brand is today among the most popular and accessible around, serving a good rendition along other home-style comfort food.
.
The chicken has a tender, juicy, slightly springy chew, with pleasant meaty sweet savoury flavour, enhanced with a touch of salty sweet savoury nutty notes from the gravy.
.
The poached chicken is more clean-tasting with a thin gelatinous layer beneath the slippery skin, while the equally popular roasted chicken has a faint smoky aroma and a slightly crisp skin.
.
The long-grain rice is soft and loose, gently slick but not overly greasy, with lovely grainy savoury sweet flavour. The sliced juicy cucumbers and crisp spring onions lend vegetal sweet flavour.
.
Served with dark sweet soy sauce with salty savoury sweet flavour, crushed ginger with herbal sweet spice notes, chili with spicy savoury kick, and a clear chicken broth.

👍Roast pork set (S$7.50) at Wee Nam Kee for dinner. Comes with vege and soup.
the highlight of the dish was always the rice! fluffy, fragrant and oily without being surfeiting. one of the rare times when we’ll want a second serving of carbs. the chicken was a hit or miss - there were days when it was perfectly cooked but also days when it was so dry thay we wanted to give up on it. but generally, it tasted amazing and i’m left craving for it every week. tried the pork chop this time round but it was quite disappointing. the meat was flattened and heavily battered till it was quite difficult to discern what meat we were having. guess we’ll be sticking to the chicken rice!!
Great for family dinners is this comfortable air-conditioned restaurant in United Square (or check out their other outlet in Marina Square). Not only are both the Steamed and Roasted Chicken ($16 for half, $4.80 for one portion) styles equally good, they also offer a wide range of vegetable, soup, meat and seafood dishes to complete the meal. The rice here is said to be "the best chicken rice rice" by fans, to which we'll say — there aren't many that are better.

Ordered chicken rice for $4.8 (excluded GST). It is good. They provide wet towel and you need to pay for $0.2. If you don’t want to use it, you can give it back to the cashier so they won’t charge you.
