A more than decent plate of Fried Hokkien Mee ($8.80); I have heard that the one at Bao Er is better and has more char with a lingering smoky aroma. However, as I have no point of comparison, I generally enjoyed the savoury stock and the âwetnessâ was great. The noodles slathered with sauce held a lovely kiss of the wok and were slurpy too.
Just a stone's throw away from my favourite pilates studio, Bao Er Cafe's sister outlet, Treasure Toast was such a welcome addition as I never got down to visiting them at Balestier.
Here for their signature toast, I got the Homemade Kaya Butter Toast Set ($6), which comes with a choice of hot kopi or teh and two soft-boiled eggs (a pity my order was overcooked). The oozy, silky jam was so good - just the right amount of sweetness with a discernible pandan fragrance amidst the âcoconutinessâ! Between the crisp, grilled to perfection, thin bread was also a beautiful pat of cold salted butter.
