This is a pretty popular stall in tiong Bahru market. It's our first time trying the dish and we found it a tad underwhelming despite the many good reviews. The taukwar was really crispy and had bean sprouts and cucumber sandwiched in between. There were also a few slices of apples and papaya that gave the dish a refreshing few bites in between. However we felt that we preferred traditional rojak as it has more flavour.
This dish ($4) is good for sharing as a side dish. Tastes similar to rojak, it's done by frying taukwa with cucumber, fruits and bean sprouts within and compressed. It leaves a bit of a slight bitter after taste though. Might prefer to eat rojak with youtiao instead.
The stuffed tau pok was grilled until crispy over charcoal, giving it a aromatic smell and taste so good with the sauce and side ingredients including my favourite sliced papaya and red apple.
This Rojak has to be the epitome of all Rojak as it has these tow kwar (beancurd skin) stuffed with bean sprout and cucumber. Not just that, before being served together with fried fritters, they are grilled over a charcoal grill giving it a smoky char elevating the dish.
Finally gotten down to trying the popular tow kwar pop (aka the Singapore-style salad) for lunch. This was such a delight to eat with those crispy hand-grilled stuffed tau pok, crispy warm fish crackers and a mix of fresh fruits (apples, shredded papaya and thinly sliced turnip)! I will definitely be back for more.
The Tow Kwar Pop Rojak is a must order dish at Tiong Bahru Market.
The 2 ⭐️⭐️ ingredients of this dish, in my opinion is definitely the thin, crispy fish cracker as well as the intense flavour and addictive shrimp paste a.k.a. ‘Hei Gor’. ❤️ #burpple
