When Dad buys back my new found favourite Teochew Kuehs on a WFH day - simple moments to appreciate (!!)
Precious cheap thrills to appreciate before they one day retire from business; the soft homely kueh skins here are truly a hallmark of this establishment that has been in business since 1974.
My purple Yam kueh had a purist yam paste that was so satisfying, for savoury variants the soon kueh and png kuehs (pictured, plated) are no brainers.
Salty tausar angkukueh (1 for $1)
Liked the exterior skin which is soft and chewy and not thick. Has a hint of pepper which goes well with the filling.
Filling is moist and has good flavour.
Peanut angkukueh (1 for $1)
Reasonably priced. Filling is quite generous and I liked the soft chewy kueh which is not too thick.
Great option at Tiong Bahru Market to get fried dough fritters. Worked for me when I greedily craved an after meal snack to dunk in Kopi O like a typical oldie.
Prices are at $5.50 for a plate.
A corner of Tiong Bahru Market serves out sizzling plates of Taiwanese-style western food. This Chicken Chop ($5.50) comes with 2 pieces of juicy chicken breast, baked beans, coleslaw, fries and sunny side up. The chicken was easily to die for, as it is flavourful and tasted even better with the gravy. The fries were lightly salted and crispy, while the egg goes well with the sauce from the baked beans!
Hot Plate Western Food is located at Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre, #02-54, 30 Seng Poh Road, S(168898).
