Third Floor that had just opened its doors at level three of the Design Orchard building which is located right across from The Heeren (or diagonally across Mandarin Gallery) along Orchard Road. These folks had taken over the former premises of the now-defunct Nowafter Cafe (previously also once occupied by Alchemist Coffee). A concept by No Sleep Club situated at Keong Saik Road, Third Floor is a little bit of a unique concept where it isn’t quite a cafe nor a bar — just something that is a little bit of both that operates somewhat like a cafe in the day, though is definitely more bar-like in the evening; this can be exemplified through the vibe-y interior that seems to replicate the experience of a gastrobar.

We found ourselves opting for the Brillat Savarin Cheese, Truffled Honey, Sticky Malt Loaf from the “After, Or Instead of Lunch” section of the menu to end off our meal at Third Floor. It is interesting to note that the Sticky Malt Loaf is actually a cake of Jamaican origin; the cake is a pretty dense one that feels almost similar to a sticky date pudding that is being done in the form of a loaf. Despite so, we did note that the Sticky Malt Loaf was actually not too sweet and does carry a malty note amidst the sweetness. We especially liked the crusty edges of the loaf that is somewhat dense and sticky; a rather interesting texture overall. It does seem like Third Floor has taken its own twist to the Sticky Malt Loaf by adding the elements such as Brillat Savarin Cheese and Truffled Honey — the Brillat Savarin Cheese is a French-style triple cream cheese that is a soft cheese with a creamy centre that tasted almost similar to Brie; quite pungent but not overly harsh to the tastebuds and counters the flavours of the Sticky Malt Loaf well. The Truffled Honey adds on a hint of floral sweetness along with a fragrant and earthy note from the truffle that goes along especially well with the Brillat Savarin Cheese, making the experience with the dish one that felt simple yet luxurious at the same time.
