Today's Special Cake ($5)
I went to there around 3 p.m. for matcha roll cake and almost near to the closing time but she alr sold out half of her daily stocks for cake. I noticed that most of them just collect the cake for celebration around 3 to 4 p.m. only. So if you want to try her cake and u can contact her directly for cake reservation or coming around opening hours for fresh daily stocks in cake instead. hmmm today's special cake is like dark chocolate cream cake but the taste is not that strong and the cake and cream's taste really quite lighter than I thought that so I got disappointed when matcha roll cake is sold out and didn't intend to get too strong taste in the cake.
This Strawberry Roll had a lot more cream than the Matcha Roll ($5.50) which gave it much better ratio. Similarly, the cake texture was soft and fluffy, while the cream used here was fresh and light. The strawberry flavour is super subtle though, with two to three slices of strawberry within. It’s probably not be for you if you’re looking for something much stronger in the fruity flavour.
Got ourselves Matcha and Strawberry Rolls from The Pound, a very humble bakery cafe tucked in Sultan Plaza by a friendly Korean owner-baker. Came wanting to try the Matcha and Black Sesame but they ran out of the latter.
The Matcha Roll was a lovely treat. The chiffon-like cake was fluffy soft and layered with matcha cream, topped with a matcha white chocolate glaze. A little sweet but not too much, with the bittersweet notes still present. Definitely wished there was a lot more cream for better ratio, but it was a thick roll for $5.50 - not bad a price tag considering its quality.
Drinks here are very affordable and the Korean lady boss is super friendly and will give recommendations.
My Iced Long Black $4 was smooth and had a nice hint of Ethiopian coffee beans. Its a nice place to do your work, but there's no WiFi so be sure to tether.
I wrote about the pound’s matcha Swiss roll in my last post but equal emphasis should be given to the handmade biscottis and their coffee .
One of the best biscottis I have eaten in a Long Long while . Crisp and aromatic with a light buttery fragrance and studded with dried fruits as nuts - not too sweet at all .
The clever lady boss packs them in a packet of 3 for 1.50. So affordable and handy - I finished all in one Go🥰.
Pair it with a smooth and Frothy cappuccino- one of the best tasting coffees I have had in a Long while . Aromatic and deep in flavour .
Absolutely seductive cakes and coffee ...
From the moment I entered this cosy cafe at sultan plaza , the matcha roll hadn’t stopped winking at me .
What hit me next was the smell of the aromatic freshly ground coffee beans .
The matcha roll was as good as it looked or even better . Luxurious matcha smooth paste atop fluffy matcha cake with a little matcha cream .
The cake was so lightly sweetened that it was such a pleasure to eat .
The latte was so incredulously smooth and aromatic - better than most coffees at famed cafes .
Get the Swiss roll and coffee cake set for 9.50.
The other hot favourites are their homemade sweet potato cake , Earl grey cake and black sesame cake .
Don’t forget to bag some almond and cranberry biscottis home - they were so good - I finished the whole bag at the cafe on top of my cake and coffee .
Cakes are baked by the korean owner and you can order them a day in advance if you need whole cakes . So affordable at 36 dollars for a whole cake with such high quality taste and ingredients .
