$44± ~ very good durian quality . Very bitter and creamy. Ordered few rounds. Definitely worth the price!!

I’ve learnt that you consume durians according to intensity, ending with the most intense flavoured cultivars. Started off with D13 which was sweet, before moving on to the Golden Phoenix with its pale yellow bittersweet softer flesh. Ended with Wang Zhong Wang which surprisingly had an almost alcoholic bitterness that lingered on.

Dubbed as the “Truffle” of durian.
Thick flesh, bittersweet, intense flavour of liquor, with aftertaste notes of coffee, chocolate and toffee.
For all Durian lovers, try this once and you will never look at other durians.

Black Gold ($20/kg)
.
Throwback to last night’s much anticipated virgin taste of the black gold @the_durian_story . The rich smooth creamy texture with its pungent aroma and bittersweet taste gives me what I call a “close eyes, tilt head” experience! The ginormous size of this was too much for us. Thankfully, we could conveniently vacuum pack the rest home and save this for another day. Reservations are strogly recommended as there was none for sale to walk-ins yesterday.

The bumper crop for durian is here again, and prices has fallen due to a huge supply from Malaysia. The low prices is expected to last for one or two more weeks, so go for it now if you like durians.
🔸
If you're a fan of Mao Shan Wang, it's selling only for $15/kg when I was at @the_durian_story yesterday. Better still, go for the Black Gold, which is a few grades higher than Mao Shan Wang, at $19/kg (price as of 15 July 2018).
🔸
So how does Black Gold taste like? What's most distinctive to me is the creamy alcoholic taste and scent. You don't always get small seed ("yew ji"), but the ones I ate all had a silky texture, and tastes buttery with a bitter aftertaste.
🔸
They were bustling with business yesterday. Reservations are strongly recommended to secure your durian.

This could be the best year for durian, as prices has fallen due to a huge supply from a bumper crop in Malaysia.

With the plunge in prices lately, this is the best time to enjoy durians at a steal. Featuring their signature Black Gold ($23/KG), this is good for those who likes intense and bitter taste. Also at the background, you can find MSW ($19/KG) which is creamy and bittersweet 😀
Note that @the_durian_story has shifted their location to Blk 151 Serangoon North Ave 2! Check their FB and IG for daily updates and call them for reservation at 87976699! 😛

A new durian shop selling very good quality durian and affordable price.
Second time went there and we ordered again one Mao Shan Wang and one Black Gold. Price based on season, this time it's 18 per kg for MSW and still 23 per kg for BG, last week it was MSW 16, WZW 18, BG 23. If you like stronger flavour and more bitter taste, go with Black Gold, if you're like me I still prefer the bitter sweet taste of Mao Shan Wang.
Make reservation earlier coz they may not have enough what you want.
Personally I feel compare to other durian shops this one feels more modern and cleaner like a dessert cafe. They provide cold and hot drinking water free of charge, gloves and salt are available too, very easy.
Some MSW if the owner feel too watery, they will not sell but use them to make ice cream.

Although I can’t visit you guys today but 满满的祝福送给你们! 🍍🍍Huat ahhhhh!!

Luckily for us the prices have dropped compared to July, you get to enjoy Mao Shan Wang 猫山王 at around $16-$18/kg. So now is definitely the best time for us to indulge in these sinful fruit.

I tend to go for MSW but am tempted to try Black Gold 黑金, a durian that’s two grade better than MSW. Which is why I ended buying them home. A stronger “pungent” smell with bitter flesh, texture is less creamy and thick compared to MSW, which I still prefer. Have you tried it too? If so are you Team BlackGold or Team MSW?

Limited quantity are available daily so I’ll recommend to call and reserve, else there’s a chance you wouldn’t get any durian.

I'll always order sweet-bitter durian like the famous Mao Shan Wang. But do you know there are higher grades other than Mao Shan Wang like Wang Zhong Wang and Black Gold? Black Gold (as featured) was so good, creamy bitter and even have an alcoholic taste 😋. Black gold is definitely recommended if you're looking for bitter durian. The durian season is in full swing and prices have dropped. It seems like the best time to buy. The Durian Story has started selling durian before the official opening and do make a reservation to avoid disappointment. .
Black Gold at S$23/kg
WZW at S$18/kg
MSW at S$16/kg
Seasonal pricing, do check out ig for the latest price.

Have you tried Black Gold, which is a few grades higher than Mao Shan Wang? And the good news is, prices seem to have came down. Prices are seasonal, but as an indication, it was going for $16/kg, $18/kg and $23/kg for MSW, WZW and Black Gold respectively last night.

The different dissonant flavours that some may describe as pungent or even repulsive somehow come together as something so addictive, that one is simply not enough!

It was an awesome evening of durian tasting. We started from the durian of the lightest flavour - Mao Shan Wang, then moved upwards to Wang Zhong Wang, Black Gold and ended with Super Black Gold.
🔸
Gosh. I've never tasted so many premium durians in a single seating before. This is taken during an invited tasting.

But to (almost) all locals, this is the bomb, especially during durian season! Such is my love for fresh, quality durians at The Durian Story. Tried 4 different types and this black gold (pictured) is my favourite of the night!
-
Its flesh is custardy, soft, creamy and has a slightly more bitter aftertaste than the more familiar cousin mao shan wang. If you prefer less sweet, this is definitely for you!

Mao Shan Wang isn't necessarily the best durian, it's simply of a different taste profile and you may realise that you like the cheaper durians better.. Just like some people prefers Robusta coffee to Arabica coffee even though Arabica is typically more expensive.
🔸
Here, we were equally split between Tekka (floral, sweet), Black Pearl (herbal, bitter) and XO (bitter, creamy), and all agreed we could like other durians better than Mao Shan Wang. 🔸
The next time you're at a durian stall, give the other durian types a try too! The Tong Lai is pictured, feel free to DM me for photos of the other durians. And thanks @eatwithroy for your macho hands!

This is Singaporean's favourite durian. It's strong, creamy, buttery, and most durian lovers love this. Prices have shot up due to strong demand and reduced supply.
🔸
During our durian session, we discovered many other good durian types at @the_durian_story.. Like the rare tekka and black pearl! Will post and review them another day.
