- One of the smoothest I’ve had!!
- Pudding was delicately soft and melt-in-the-mouth served with clear brown sugar syrup that’s not too sweet. [9/10]

- Super smooth without any strain of grainy or siap aftertaste 😋
- Very easy to finish alone, beany taste milder than the former.
- Rich aroma of the beans though I wouldn’t mind a slightly thicker consistency. [8.5/10]

$1 | Totally understand why people are raving so much about the soy milk and bean curd here! Super super smooth and cheap tau huay which you won’t be able to find it else where!

One of the long queues in Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre is the queue for this good old school styled soya bean milk stall. It sells soya bean milk, curd and chin chow. The soya bean milk and curd are the main attractions. It’s really not the same as those instant soya bean milk types made from powder.

If there is such as a thing as artisanal beancurd, Teck Seng Soya Bean Milk 德盛豆花水 might be it. Sold out by the early afternoon, the snaking queue is pretty intimating especially for a simple bowl of beancurd or soya bean milk. But the flavours and textures (as well as prices) were totally on point. At $1, the medium-sized bowl is just the right portion for a single soya bean lover like myself and if you are sharing please do get the big container at $1.70. Soft, silky, smooth and even melt-in-your-mouth, it certainly stands out from the rest for its rich soya bean aroma and distinct freshness (a unprocessed sweetness). Not at all cloying, the syrup also brought out the fragrance of the curd. And pair it up with with a cup of chilled “Michael Jackson” and you are good to go.

It's getting increasingly difficult to find good tau huay, which explains why Tastemaker Victoria Hii was thoroughly won over by this silky smooth Beancurd (from 80 cents for a small bowl). Although it looks firm on the outside, the beancurd actually has an incredibly soft mouthfeel, and is both light and refreshing. Tastemaker Victoria describes the syrup to boast "a subtle sweetness that is not overpowering, bringing out the rich soy flavor of the pudding". This makes a perfect dessert to round off what is possibly a rich and oily hawker meal; or come early and have this for breakfast! Pro tip: This stall sells out early, so make sure you arrive well before noon for the best chance of snagging a bowl.
