The next time you're pressed for time at lunch, grab a quick one at Sukiya. Much like the flurry of fast food joints in Japan, this self-service restaurant offers value-for-money rice bowls and options to upgrade your meal — think attractive add-ons like the Seaweed Salad Set (RM5.50), Edamame Set (RM5.50) and Karaage Set (RM6.50). Besides their specialty Gyudon (from RM7.40), which tempts with tender beef slices atop rice, the Bonito Fried Garlic Rice with Okra (from RM9) is also a fine choice that pairs fragrant bonito flakes with crunchy ladyfingers. Bring your favourite colleague to indulge in this bargain meal with.

Finally tried the #gyudon friend been craving for.😊 Beef taste is coming a bit too strong and heavy load of MSG.😅 Yet, design in the shop (like washroom, layout, lighting) is exactly the same with those in Japan.☺️ #shircvenus #sukiya #uptown #damansara
This little eatery in damansara uptown exude the ambience of those small eateries in Tokyo, Japan with its ever so friendly welcome by their staff and the simplicity of their menu with options to choose from in terms of accompaniments and affordable sets which are made for busy people that just want a quick and simple meal! Well this is the place as its really affordable in price and great food.. In sukiya, I ordered their fried garlic rice with lady fingers and bonito flakes along side the seaweed set which is just an additional of Rm5.90 that comes with a bowl of fresh seaweed, a bowl of miso soup and a glass of cold green tea which totals up the meal of rm14.90.. The fried rice is really nice with the bonito flakes and the interesting part is that you can choose the sizes of Small, medium and large! There are other choices of mains which includes the ramen or soda either chicken or beef
Not to be confused with the popular shabu-shabu franchise, Damansara Utama's Sukiya specialises in Japanese donburis. The fairly priced set menu will attract lunchtime office crowds but if you're the type who prefers to grab a quick bite alone, the frill-free individual counter seats are perfect. Go for the value-for-money Gyudon Seaweed Salad Set (from RM11.90) — rice simmered in soy sauce and topped with flavourful beef and onion, served with seaweed salad, miso soup and a drink. Alternatively, the Tokyo Oyakodon Set (from RM15.40) should satisfy your hunger with tender chicken and a runny soft-boiled egg on rice.

I didn’t know such restaurant exists in Malaysia, but there is and it’s delicious. Specialising in gyudon, donbori and curry rice, Sukiya is Damansara Uptown’s best under-the-radar Japanese restaurant for nourishing and affordable one-bowl-meals. There’s a focus on sets but that doesn’t mean anything if not value for money.
I had the Tokyo Oyakodon Medium Set (RM15.4) — a Japanese classic rice dish that warrants a happy and satisfied stomach. The oyakodon was scrumptious with oozy, half boiled eggs laid atop tender and flavourful chicken, a result from being stewed in dashi stock. So good, I could've finished this in seconds. The set came with steamed and salted edamame, miso soup, and an iced drink of your choice so you know where your money’s worth. Definitely enjoyed my meal here. Service is friendly and will have you pining for their food any day!
