I skipped the lobsters in favour of the steak. Got myself a medium rare rib eye.
My first impression, was that it had a very strong peppery smell to it. Totally my type of scent. I cut into the piece of succulent rib eye, the colour was a perfect dark red in the centre, a mark of a good medium rare steak. It was extremely chewy when cut into. I applied some of S&L’s signature black pepper sauce and took a bite.
As it laid on my tongue, the juices and flavours spread out, like olive oil on a hot pan. The meat has a very chewy but at the same time extremely tender consistency to it. I really really liked their seasoning: Good amount of salt with a strong peppery character. The fattiness of the ribeye really did bring out the best of the flavours as the fats have melted through the steak.
As for the sides, I could not help but get enough of the fries (unlike anything else I’ve eaten). It is so addicting, and it’s refillable! The other one was a pan fried pumpkin, sweet. And then we had potato with some green stuff on it. It taste exactly like sour cream and onion. Then we discovered that it is actually some sort of avocado paste in there.
The service, I'd rate it 8/10. The wait staff were courteous and topped up on water and sides at regular periods. S&L has a good family ambience, perfect for celebrating a special occasion.
The only thing I wished they had more of is the variety of sauces as well as a display of the sides on the menu. The best part of all? We weren't expected to pay through our nose for the quality of food served. A price range of RM60-90 per person for good quality steak is reasonable. I am definitely making a second visit!
