Surrounding the dome of rice garnished with "serundeng" (fried coconut flakes) was a carousel of delights. Now, there are different ways to enjoy a plate of Nasi Ambeng. You can mix everything up, or try assorted combinations of whatever's on the plate. Personally, I prefer taking a bit of each item to have individually with some rice as I feel this is a better way to appreciate the flavour the way it was intended.
The highlight for me here was the chicken cooked in a thick, spicy rendang type of gravy (you can also opt for the beef if preferred) but everything else was also pretty "sedap" (tasty). Except if I'm to be really picky, I did think the coating of the "bergedil" (mashed potato patty) could have been less hard.
