When it comes to nostalgic food from my secondary school days, Pontian wanton noodles is definitely one of the dishes that never fails to throw me back to my teenage years. I immediately get flashbacks of my teen self slurping down these noodles in my sweaty green pinafore at the basement of Far East plaza after school.
The bouncy noodles are covered in a sweet yet salty black sauce, with a spicy kick of chilli. Also, whoever was the genius that discovered mayonnaise goes perfectly with fried wantons needs to become the next mayor of Pontian right now. This is a generally unhealthy meal thatās perfect for the overaged kid in me who is living in denial plus reluctant to grow up and face my adult responsibilities.
This has a total belly score of *drumroll*: 2.75/5 š
I asked for extra chili and they delivered. But not a lot of black sauce so this bowl was spicy and pretty bland. Prefer the one at Star Vista.
This was a āchef recommendationā but I found nothing special about it. Pretty greasy. I didnāt like it very much. They were freshly fried but not very crispy when I ate it after my Wonton Mee.
Pon Tian is a franchise so I've had a really bad one at a coffee shop in Jurong East, but this one from Star Vista actually tasted quite good though I've never been a fan of wanton mee. The fried dumplings tasted fresh and there was no yucky oil smell, and I like the addition of é³é±¼ (no idea what's that in English haha "bilingual" huh) in the filling which gave the dumplings an extra oomph. :)
$4 a bowl, great for a quick bite! Really like the fried wantons!
Wanton Noodles~~ Pontian might not be the best around but somehow I kind of like their wanton noodles. Noodles are springy and without the distinctive smell & taste of "alkaline". Comes with 2 types of wanton - Deep fried & boiled. I prefer deep fried anytime! Sauce is with right amount of chilli and there's also my favourite - deep fried, crunchy pork lard. Everything just taste better with pork lard. š·šš“ *Burps*
