Coming to Pontian, you shouldn’t left the place without grabbing some of the traditional pastries from this place called the Chai Huat Heng.
An old school pastries shop that has been selling for more than 80 years now and continue to be a family business in this town.
Their Heong Piah 香饼 is one of the popular items here. I was lucky to catch the time when they just finished baking them, hot from the oven without any packaging yet. This pastry is stuffed with caramelised malt sugar inside.
Looking for vegetarian foods in Pontian, then you should heading to Jia Xiang Vegetarian Food; just a short walk from the bus terminal.
They have been selling vegetarian foods here for more than 10 years, famous for their Hakka thunder tea rice.
So appetising when looking at the combination of veggies and the thunder tea.
Is weekend again and it is another good reason to cross the causeway to explore Johor.
This time I made my long way to Pontian town, which you could reach here via public bus T50 from Larkin Sentral.
If you reach here early morning enough, then you should head over to Kheng Guan Hiong coffee shop for a cup of local style coffee; with some toast for your breakfast here.
Kheng Guan Hiong roast and ground their own coffee, and they also sell drip coffee for you to take home as well.
Beside that, they also sell all sort of Malaysian style breakfast here and most importantly, would be their toast baked over charcoal with fresh traditional white loaves, house made kaya and butter.
