Lastly the 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗯 ($7.00) was a masterpiece. Fried to a perfect crisp while not being overly oily, the flesh was still succulent. Also topped with — you guessed it — mentaiko sauce, it was truly delightful.

Among the sides, it’s easy to see why the 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶 ($5.00) is a best seller. The deliciousness of the sweet tamagoyaki, a popular Japanese snack, was ramped up several notches by the mentaiko sauce.

Not to be outdone, the 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶 𝗗𝗼𝗻 ($8.80) came with a humongous chunk of chicken that was crazily crispy and justifiably juicy. It was similarly topped with lots of mentaiko sauce.

Mentaiko lovers, rejoice! Specialising in Japanese rice bowls with mentaiko sauce, Mentai-Ya has seven outlets across the island, with Clementi the newest addition.

Starting with the 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶 𝗗𝗼𝗻 ($9.80), we were greeted with a thick slab of salmon sporting crispy skin and flakey flesh, topped with generous amounts of creamy, umami mentaiko sauce.
