First known this place for its advertised quality food at hawker price. I was anticipated for that
However, upon trying it, I feel that the rice was dry due to lack of teriyaki sauce and the salmon was normal.
Overall, nothing to shout about
Specialising on their Mentaiko delights, Mentai-Ya offers a variety of affordable mentaiko dons from just $7.80 for a hearty portion of Japanese rice, juicy fresh meat and abundant Mentaiko sauce!
Visited their Bukit Panjang Outlet,We had salmon mentai don, chicken mentai don, mentaiko fries and their ebi prawn ๐๐ค๐ค๐ค. Their portion is a lot with a generous amount of their mentaiko sauce on top!
With their new opening at Serangoon, combined with a number of existing outlets across the island, at Bukit Panjang, Sengkang, Punggol, Tampines, Boon Keng, Clementi, Choa Chu Kang and Toa Payoh.
๐Tori Karage ($5)
The chicken is tender and chewy and the skin is really crispy too. It reminds me of karaage from Japanese restaurants!
๐Mentaiko Fries ($5)
The mentaiko mayo is savoury and creamy with string umami notes. The fries are super crispy too! The portion is a little small, I feel, but the generous amount of mentaiko is to be applauded.
๐ Chicken Katsu Curry Don ($8.80)
A pretty solid bowl of katsu curry, the curry is not too salty and is well dispersed throughout the bowl. The chicken katsu is crispy and tender, the texture of the meat is a little mushier and reminds me of the texture of fish and chips.
๐ฒCheese Chicken Mentai Don ($10.80)
Absolutely adored this bowl. The chicken cutlet was topped with a generous amount of mentaiko mayo and torched cheese, and the rice is drizzled with a sweet umami sauce that tastes similar to teriyaki. All the elements come together to create a dish that is sweet and savoury with just the right amount of saltiness.
