Why doesn't our little red dot have a magnum cafe ?!?!?! Here is yesterday's creation with chilli flakes, crushed Oreos and raisins. Still looking for the perfect combo- maybe the gold nuggets instead of boring Oreos ?
Classic vanilla ice cream; Dark chocolate; Goji berries, chopped almonds, chocolate crunch pearls; White chocolate drizzle;
This was taken back in September during my trip to Kuala Lumpur when I found my way to the pristine and opulent-looking Magnum Café.
Pictured here are Death By Chocolate and Cookie Skillet, each priced at RM18 I believe. It's unfortunate that the picture does not do justice to these desserts, but these easily reached new heights of sinful. Let me put it into perspective – a warm, molten, gooey, melty, chocolatey cookie or brownie – baked to an estimated size of a lasagne. If that does not sound like something that is meant to be shared among a few people, then I'm afraid you'll need to reevaluate that impression! I couldn't get through half the Cookie Skillet without feeling stuffed. The word in my language that best fits that sensation is jelak.
In a nutshell, I'll admit that I felt defeated. Nonetheless, it was quite the cathartic experience getting to try this! I am all for recommending anyone, especially chocolate connoisseurs, a go at this place. Just…don't overestimate your appetite. 😉 (7/10)
Pairing strawberries and balsamic vinegar is a no-brainer. With ice cream and mascarpone cream in the picture, the addition of honey to the balsamic was a thoughtful tweak to temper the acidity a little, allowing it to better fit into the ensemble while still providing the much needed tanginess. I initially thought that the cashew meringue would make this cloyingly sweet, but I really liked its roasted nuttiness! This definitely fared better than the disappointing molten lava cake (Magnum Death By Chocolate, RM32), which was more kueh-like than cake in consistency.
p.s. While this was rather well-balanced, it's still impossible to eat on your own. Make sure you bring 2-3 more friends to share it with!
The lava cake must lub us loong time as it appeared to have rushed out of the house to meet us before being fully ready.
The atas magnum designed in a very nice presentation when serving but it's in a small portion to name it as dessert! Anyway, the most expensive one costs up to MYR77. Good for a try and the one in photo is the red velvet which is not too sweet and just right that to say it's delicious!
